Hi there! I’m a little over 2 months post-op (RNY) and figuring out what to eat and how much to eat is still a learning process. I had done nutrisystem in the past before my surgery, but never loved it because I felt the portions were too small and it was expensive having to buy that stuff and everything else to supplement it from the store.

But now, I’m wondering if those portions might be perfect, and I wouldn’t have to spend much money at all at the store to supplement the packaged food. I know I’d need to make sure I’m still getting enough Protein in, but I’m curious... anyone further post-op than me tried to follow the nutrisystem program?

I'm betting that while the portion size may be smaller, I don't recall them being as small as a 2 month post-op would eat.

More to point, though, is the content. The Protein to other ratio that I recall would not be appropriate for my plan.

Unless you intend to eat NutriSystem forever, best to learn to do it yourself, now.

Good luck,

Tek

My concern would be getting in enough Protein with nutrisystem.

Is the problem meal planning or cooking? If it's cooking, just grab pre-made stuff at the grocery store, like rotisserie chicken, steamed shrimp, chicken salad from the deli, etc. Eggwhite omelettes are easy to make, and there's always my fave snack, greek yogurt! For the cost of nutrisystem, you could even order takeout a couple times per week and make 3-4 meals out of each takeout meal. You could also get Lean Cuisines and just pick out the protein and veggies. I can get 2 meals out of 1 lean cuisine. Just a few ideas!

if you got a plan from your clinic, I would follow that for now. Things like Nutrisystem and Weight Watchers might be fine a year or more out, but for now I'd stick to my clinic's plan (if you got one...)

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
