ESG Procedure 8/19 - Liquid Phase Tips

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! New to the forum! I just got an ESG procedure done in Virginia (so far so good if looking for a recommendation!) So I'm currently 4 days post op. I haven't felt the urge to eat/drink/ anything which I know is just as bad as eating the wrong thing so I was wondering if anyone has some recipes or tips to get through the liquid phase. Never thought I'd crave scrambled eggs haha

Thanks!

When I couldn't face another Protein Shake day, I drank Swanson Sipping Broths, 45 calories and 9 grams of Protein. When I was really craving something more "solid" I mixed Healthy Request Cream of chicken with 1% milk, heated it and strained the chunks out of it, Once, when I felt I was going mad, I had my son go to Panera and get the Summer Corn Choder, which I blended and strained...yum!

I really like Protein hot chocolate. I got some from the BariatricPal Store that was really good, and then I got a big canister from Amazon that's ok but not quite as good. I have found that warm stuff goes down a little easier than cold, and the protein hot chocolate tastes like normal hot chocolate -- something I would drink before surgery. It's nice to have something a little different when you get sick of the cold Protein Shakes.

I had ESG done on June 19th in NC. I could not drink Water for the first week. It was like drinking battery acid. My doc told me to drink milk (fairlife) and warm Soups plus Protein Shakes. The warm Soups (blended/strained) hit the spot. BTW, I'm down 30 pounds.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
