Congratulation on your surgery date, can I ask how long your entire process took before you got a surgery date

Thank you! The whole process took just about 6 months. I had 4 dietitian appointments, 1 endoscopy, 1 medical eval, 1 psych eval. After that I waited 3 week to get the approval from my insurance. I have Aetna for insurance as well.

I just started my pre-op diet which is 1,000 calories per day. I decided my only meal will be dinner, grilled chicken Caesar salad for 2 weeks. My surgery is the 20th I am so scared.

Hi Velise, good luck with your chicken caesar salad - sounds delicious. I started my pre-op diet today. I've been told 8-900 calories so I'm doing Lighterlife. My surgery 19th. Which surgery are you having?

@lychee I’m having the RNY what about yourself? I decided that because I already suffer with heartburn.

@velise, I'm also having RNY for same reason, heartburn. I'm so relieved to have made my decision after thinking about it for 10 years! But I'm also rather anxious. I don't know anyone who has had the operation so this forum is really helpful.

Hi Everyone,

I am scheduled for bypass on 8/31. I have issues with reflux so my surgeon feels that sleeve would make that worse. I am excited but a bit scared. What is best way to get rid of gas after surgery?

Hi Everyone,

I'm having my surgery on 8/19. I am on a two week liquid diet and today is the first day. It's been tough.

Wow my insurance required very little, and only one dietitian appointment, all my surgeon wanted was my cardiologist to sign off, because I have pregnancy induced heart failure. My insurance is pretty cool with surgeries, I have Humana. My surgery is on 08/13 and only took about two months. Would of been sooner but I had a blighted Ovium so I popped on the pregnancy test for my endoscopy, and had to get a sonogram to prove I was not pregnant. No one ever listens to me lol.

I live in Florida and I have to get a covid test on Friday for my bypass on Tuesday. Funny how everything is different everywhere...good luck!

I know right. I am having my surgery in Sebastian, FL but I am in PSL my zip code we have had less then 5 cases and Sebastian has like less then 200 cases. We are really lucky over here. Other zip codes around me are a lot worse.

Folks, sorry that I have not been responding to posts. I'm having surgery in the morning, but not bariatric. I plan to recover and have my sleeve surgery in Nov. I hate that it had to be moved but I'll get through this. I wish you all the best.

I’m going in on Friday for the RNY. Had a few close calls but did not cheat on the prep. Water helped a lot. I would drink water then lay down and hope to fall asleep before I got hungry again. My labs came back slightly elevated for Bun - 23 and alanine - 71. Doctor said it’s from the fatty liver and excess Protein. I increased my water by 32 oz to help flush the kidneys. All that’s left to do is pack an overnight bag.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
