Having gastric bypass postpartum

Recommended Posts

I’m having lap roux-en-y on 2/24 (yay!) and have an 8 month old at home. Has anyone experienced WLS postpartum? How did you handle caring for baby? How long until you were able to pick up and hold them? I’m still dealing with pp Hair loss so I’m not as worried about that with the upcoming surgery. Most concerned about not being able to pick up baby.

I don't have kids but someone in the thread I am for January surgery peeps she was already carrying her 5 month old around in car seat so I was shocked! 😳 So I guess it is ok for some to hold their babies right away.

Ask your surgeon about it maybe, or his office staff if they're the ones who usually answer questions.

I have a one year old at home so a little older than yours but my surgeon said I couldn’t lift over 10 pounds so I will not be able to pick her up. Someone could put her in my arms and so on but I can’t actually lift.
maybe you could find someone, a family member or friend to help for a few weeks with baby.
but then again, all surgeon’s are different and you might have a different weight limit.

I think I had a 10 lb limit for the first four weeks or so.

Thanks for the responses. My team basically said the same thing- lift nothing heavier than a gallon of milk for 4 weeks.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
