April 2020

Good morning everyone. After months of waiting, I finally received a surgery date 4/16/2020. I would love to chat with anyone having surgery in April.

my status:
Insurance: changed from a PPO to an *** (due to a new job). I have emblemhealth HIP Prime ***.

Began process July 2019: 6 months of checking my weight.
BMI 39: mild sleep apnea and hypertension.

hospital : Lenox Hill in NY

Surgery : RNY but still seriously considering DS. My doc is open to any of them but encouraged me to choose RNY.

I have a pre-op class next month 2/20 and must complete pre-op labs during the last week of March 2020. Paperwork to my insurance will be submitted in March 2020.

good luck everyone!! I am hoping I get my surgery approved by my insurance as I am looking forward to my new journey

Hi!! Congrats! I’m really hoping I get a date around that timeframe! I just started the process December 31st, but my insurance has no waiting period. I’ll finish with all necessary appointments

Congrats!!! This is random, but do you (or anyone else who sees this) obsess over the surgery? Wondering if it will be approved, worried that something will change, etc.? If so, how do you manage it?!

I'm in Maryland! I'm also nervous/excited, and tbh the fact that this was sprung on me so unexpectedly is probably a good thing... my next appt, which wasn't supposed to be for another month, is now on Tuesday, so I can't do any "last meals" or crazy binges on all my favorite junk, like pizza, ice cream, etc. Am I the only one mourning the loss of crap food?
Absolutely not! [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23] I have been having "food funerals" every week.

It's MY time!

I'm just nervous period that somehow my surgery will get cancelled due to all the nonsense. Like its low priority or hospitals get overwhelmed with people freaking out. They've already cancelled school for the next month, store shelves are empty, I'm going to be mad if this ridiculous hysteria makes me get cancelled.

My employer decided to spring on me 6 weeks pre-surgery that they are most likely not approving my time off for surgery (still pending one more possible leave option, but it's looking unlikely). I decided that I want my surgery way more than I want this job, so went into overdrive and got a different job with a previous employer. It looks like it is going to mostly work out -- I will likely have to start orientation at the new job quicker than the original 2 weeks I wanted to take off, but it will be classroom training, which should be do-able.

I don't have to start my pre-op diet until a couple days before surgery, but I am contemplating getting into ketosis now so I don't have to go through that at the same time I am having surgery.

I am excited and nervous as the time gets closer!

Its stupid that we should have to go to these lengths. If it was any other surgery they would be on board. However if you have been at that job for more than a year I believe they dont have a choice beciase FMLA protects you. Honestly switching jobs is probably better as I wouldn't want to work for someone with that attitude anyway! I'm glad ita all working out for you!

Still hoping that mine goes off on time, but I have "volunteered" to fill any empty spot that may occur between now and then due to fear of COVID-19 or travel or whatever. I think my medical center is deciding as we speak about elective surgeries. Their concern is the shortage of PPEs (surgical gowns, masks, booties, hats and gloves) to keep a sterile environment in the ORs. *Shrug* We'll just have to wait and see.

Yes I'm so worried about this whole thing. I have not heard from nurse if I'm approved. Hopefully this virus goes away as quickly as it came. My last step is picking up my optifast . Then surgery

God help us all !

So mine was just cancelled. We have less than 50 cases in the entire state, and they cancelled all surgeries. I'm so upset.

Solo,

try not to be too upset. Due to circumstances beyond control; it took me two years to get mine. I started watching what I ate and exercising more and lost 35 pounds before my surgery. I can feel your pain but try to stay positive.

Im having my gastric sleeve April 2nd. I am from michigan flying to mexico..im worried about blood clots on way home.. Should I wear compression socks on way home?

Waiting for my insurance approval so I can scheduled. My DR doesn’t see any delays due to the surgery being performed at a surgery center

HI, I'm scheduled for April 15th and pre-op testing and diet starts April 1. I'm just hoping it's not postponed.

Oh, congratulations!!! That is just awesome! I hope you get a date that isn't caught up in the middle of this COVID-19 pandemic. All the best!

Hi it’s.time. My surgery was cancelled and it will be TBD. It was schedule for April 9 and let’s say your surgery is set for 4-16 and they resume surgery, yours would be pushed back and the March folks will get surgery . The coordinator also told me that everyone will be 2 weeks behind. If things resolve I might have my surgery in May or June. It also all depends if people want to wait it out. Who knows. This might be a scheduling mess.

So far my April 23rd date is holding, however for how long I think the inevitable is coming. I am beginning to loose hope that I will get a call next week about a reschedule. I am self-pay and opted to pre-pay everything now and not wait till a week before. Doing so I was told may provide some scheduling "favor" and put me near the top when the schedule is re-created.I'm thinking that's not going to happen either.
