  1. So exciting! Prayers for your safe and uneventful surgery and recovery! You are on the way! 😺
  2. Hang in there! I go on Wednesday so I'm getting a bit of nerves as well. Though right now my excitement level is way overwhelming the fear factor. I won't have any family support for my hospital stay, but that just means I'll work extra hard to get out as fast as I can. You're going to to just fine! Use a positive mantra or something tomorrow while you wait. We'll all be here for you when you wake up; come out to the forums when you feel up to it. Good healing!!
  3. That is such awesome news! Wishing you all the best in your surgery next Thursday; I'll be a day before you, so we'll basically be convalescing together. Great to meet you, surgery buddy!! ((HUGS))

    New to the process

Just getting to the last stages of preparing for my surgery next week, though I've really been preparing for the last 6 months. It has been a process, no kidding. All of the bad habits I've had to break, and now that surgery is just around the corner I feel like it is way harder to NOT give in to temptation. BUT, I wouldn't change anything so far; I'm down 60 pounds and am ready for this additional tool in my arsenal to get me the rest of the way! Do peruse this site, particularly the thread about getting in the headgame. The quicker you get that process going the easier it is going to be as you progress. Do know that there will be great days and there will be horrid days. It's the way of life and this isn't going to change that, unfortunately. Do realise this is a tool and not the be-all end-all fix for a lifetime of bad food choices. Like any tool, you have to use it in order for it to become more effective. Do take pictures and measurements! Measurements are great for when the scales don't seem to be moving! Do realise that you are not alone in this journey! There are lots of us going through the same things. Come out and read and engage; it is a huge motivation! Don't give up! You started this journey for a reason; write it down somewhere that you can pull it out when you are having a bad moment, or questioning why you chose this. Welcome to the journey and welcome to the site! Both will change your life for the better!
  5. That is awesome news! Congratulations on your new date!!

    Starting Over

That's great news @danielleleigh90! I know it is another wait, but it sounds like you are more comfortable at a familiar institution. Keep us posted on how you are doing! ((HUGS))

    Any new surgery dates yet?

Was 4/13, now 5/13. Excited and a teeny bit nervous.
  8. I'm so sorry to hear that, Clorose5! That is for sure a disappointment. Try not to get too down though. It will happen for you. Stay strong, you can do this! <<HUGS>>
  9. My April 13 date was postponed (obviously). I now have a new date of May 13. *happy dance* I hope everyone else receives the same kind of great news very very soon! Stay strong, it's our time and it will happen! ❤️❤️

    New Tentative Surgery Date

Virginia has reinstated electives, so I'm wondering do I call my surgeon's office or do I wait for them to call me? I don't want to be delayed due to lack of activity on my part. But I don't want to pester them either. Hard to know which way to go. At least it is progress! Stay strong and healthy, friends.
  11. Congratulations, Mikey! I'm so pleased for you feeling and looking so great! Thanks for continuing to share with all of us who are still struggling to take off pounds, and now waiting on postponed surgeries to be rescheduled.
  12. Congratulations, @ChubRub! I'll bet you did your own little happy dance after announcing it! ((HUGS))

    Look, Look!

That is fantastic news, @momof3_angels! Way to go! It is inspiring to hear your story and I hope to follow your success whenever my surgery gets rescheduled for. CONGRATULATIONS!
  14. My surgeon called me yesterday to let me know that my 4/13 date is postponed. He assured me that I will be given a new surgery date as soon as he's able to reschedule them. He thought we were probably looking at summer. I thought it was super sweet of him to call me himself. I feel for these surgeons whose paycheck is based off the number of procedures they do. I'm disappointed, he has to be that and more. I'm grateful my surgeon is based out of a University hospital, so I know he'll get his base salary; and he's also a General Surgeon so he can take on other types of surgeries. Hang in there everyone! Don't give up when you've come so far! Take it one day at a time, control those things you can, and then let the others go. I turn them over to God, but that is me and not everyone else. Take a few minutes and find your happy place; this isn't a rejection, it's simply a delayed gratification. Wishing all the best to all of us! xoxoxo
  15. Do you know what your trigger food is? I've been dealing with acid reflux for 30-some years and it took me most of them to figure out that too many CARBS triggers my reflux! Now that I'm aware of that, I eat way fewer carbs and definitely not within a couple of hours before bedtime. If I slip a little and feel the reflux starting, I take an Omeprezole, otherwise, I leave it in its bottle, and I'm down to a TUMS every once in a while instead of several times per day. Maybe if you try cutting back on certain things to see how it goes, you might be able to determine what your trigger is, too. I hope your reflux gets reduced/resolved soon.

    next step

Our schools are done for the rest of the school year, per our governor. The university's are doing virtual classes to finish out the semester, but are cancelling the first half of the summer semester all together. University graduations are being reconstructed to do as much as they can remotely, though our students aren't going to get the "walk" up to get their diplomas, which is really sad. I'm thankful that I have an essential job (health care) where I've not been furloughed or let go. I work from home 4 days a week and only go into the office once to take care of things that I can't do from home. I'm still putting in 40 hours a week. My surgery is being delayed (from April 13). I don't know when it will be rescheduled at this point. So, I'm keeping on keeping on, sticking to my new way of eating in preparation for surgery. I haven't been out walking like I should be, since my rec center closed due to COVID-19, so that is something I need to work on. Other than that, I'm trying to take life one day at a time and being the most positive person I can be. Like AJ said above, I can't do anything about the situation, so I might as well try to enjoy what I can.

    New Tentative Surgery Date

So happy for you to get a new (and close!) surgery date! I got a call this afternoon to pre-register for my Monday surgery, which I'm told by my NP is being postponed. Talk about a buzz kill. LOL! I hope that your surgery goes off without being postponed again, but only IF it will be safe for you. My hospital's surgery schedules are being looked at and considered a day ahead, to make certain that everything stays safe for the patients as well as the care team. Since my procedure is elective and postponing it for a little while isn't going to kill me, I will 99% for sure be postponed on Friday. It's a drag for me for sure, but it has to be a drag for my surgeon because that is his business! Look at all the revenue he's lost even in the last couple of weeks. I feel for him too. Be safe out there! ((HUGS))
  18. Hi Cammy! Glad to hear that your building is down to 15 people, that is quite a change I'm sure. My office is down to 2-3 per day (we're on the 3rd floor of our building) with physicians we support coming and going as they need to. One of my co-workers daughter is a pediatric nurse who is, obviously, essential personnel right now. She goes to work for her four 12-hour shifts a week, comes home, and does exactly what you do, she strips in the mud room, puts everything in the wash including her shoes, and then jumps in the shower. All before she greets her children and her parents. You are doing the right things to keep yourself and your mom safe. Well done! I hope that your week is turning out well, how is the fatigue? That was one thing I worried about going back to work. Of course, now my surgery has been postponed so I don't have to worry about that for now. Take good care and stay safe! ((HUGS))

    Hair loss

Not to be an extremist, just offering another example. Not all people's hair grows back. I had a surgery about 4 years ago now (not WLS) and have to say I'm still shedding. Nothing I have tried has helped. I am worried that the WLS will just make the fallout rate even higher. Oh well, that's why they invented wigs, right? I'm guessing I'm in the minority though of people who don't get their hair back. I would try not to worry too much about it, and wait and see what happens. Hoping the best for you!

    Surgery Cancelled

Oh, I'm so sorry you have been caught up in all of this turmoil, too! Hopefully it won't be for too long. I'm hoping for the best, but preparing for my April 13 surgery to be postponed. I'm just going to keep on my journey though, practicing all the skills that I will need after surgery and getting my head totally wrapped around the changes that are going to be made. Come out to the forums when you feel discouraged or low. There are lots of folks going through this same issue right now and everyone is pulling together to make it bearable. Wishing you all the very best!
  22. I get that when I've overeaten now. Tummy just isn't used to the volume I used to put in it (I'm still pre-surgery), so it gets full faster and when I overeat I get what I call the "buddha belly", round and distended. Most uncomfortable. Sometimes it goes away fairly quickly (within a few hours as foods digest), and other times I need to take a TUMS or a Phenergan and wait for it to hit my lower intestines when everything "whooshes" out. Hope yours gets better soon!
  23. I'm so happy for your updates, Mikey! Thank you for sharing your journey with us, it is truly inspirational! ((HUGS))
  24. I just had a thought! Why not take this time in spring that we have as downtime around the house and plant our own gardens? It will ensure that we have fresh veg and possibly fruits, will definitely count as exercise, and you can get seeds and starters from Burpee.com plus all the gardening tips you'll ever need. I may just take my own advice/thought. HAHA!
