Insurance question??

Recommended Posts

Ok I know nothing about insurance, I'm 24 years old, and I never had medical insurance, I live in Houston, TX and I was looking into getting insurance that will cover lap band, I now weigh 268 lbs, and I've been overweight my whole life but this is the biggest I ever got, I need help and information, I'm getting so depress because I don't want to gain anymore weight.

aetna does cover the lapband, but your company have to have it add to their policy you can call them tell them the company you work for and they can tell you if lapband is cover I know that Aetna requires a 6 month supervised diet with you DR. 5 years weight history showing that you have been overweight for 5 years and a BMI of 35 and over. (So call them and find out if its covered if so find u a lapband dr. and let them deal with the insurance company

Try to get the insurance thur your employer, it will cost less than on your on. You may have a hard time getting coverage on you due to your weight, if you are able to you will possibly be rated to a higher premium. Most insurance companies have a weight chart they go by, so try to get it with your employer.

Private insurance usually will not cover elective procedures like the lap band although it's medical necesssity can be argued. I had private insurance for a couple of years when I was in college because I was too old to be on my parent's and ins. was not offered at my job, it was REALLY crappy, it covered me if I got sick, but that was about it and even then the deductible was REDICULOUS. I would start researching your jobs benefits first.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
