Nervous about my decision to go with bypass vs sleeve. About a week away. Is dumping syndrome worth the benefit of more weight loss and less regain?

I am 7 weeks post op. Haven't experienced dumping yet. I have been sticking with the prescribed diet. I dont drink with my meals and I dont eat sugary foods. I'm sure there will be something in the future that causes it but i don't really think it's a common thing unless you're not eating right. I was first set for sleeve but dr talked me into bypass. He said he has to do more revisions of sleeves to bypass then any other surgery. So far so good for me. So I'm sure this will be a good decision for you as well.

I'm just past 4 months post op rny and I've only had dumping once on accident. I made a Protein Shake with things that added up to a bit too much sugar than I could tolerate. But, every body is different, so you'll have to get to know your body.

Honestly, dumping was one of the reasons why I chose rny over sleeve. I knew I would need that extra kick in the butt to help with my lifelong food addiction! I have zero regrets with my rny. My life is so much better since making the decision to get wls. Good luck!

PS- I also attend wls support groups, OA meetings, and see my regular psychiatrist to help with my lifelong food addiction.

Surgery weight 281 (7/3/19)

dumping isn't a given. I've never dumped, and I know a lot of other RNY'ers who've never dumped. The statistic I see thrown around a lot on internet forums is that about 30% of RNY'ers dump, but I don't know if there's any hardcore research behind that number. Suffice it to say, a lot of us don't dump.

if you DO turn out to be a dumper, it's easy to control. It's caused by too much sugar hitting the small intestine. Just avoid sugar - or severely limit it (which we all should be doing regardless).

Dont overthink it - If you eat right and Your Head is in the game you will be fine -

Dumping is a protection method so it only comes into play when you F@#ck Up.

Sugar, grease or Heavy Carbs and it kicks in

This will be the best decision you made

Oh you have not seen anything yet - After the surgery you will notice a lot more- You will be amazed how people eat and gorge themselves - Just driving you get ambushed with signs, promotions, etc.

This liquid week sucks its hard, probably the hardest time for alot of us. You may want to read a long post i did a few weeks back on the Getting Prepared and Head issues. It makes the journey alot easier if you get all the ducks in a row, Unlike me who Screwed up bad and had to recover making the journey hard till i got my stuff togethor

AJ is right, don't over think it. I'm 4 months out and only experienced dumping twice and it was because I was off my game and ate something wrong. I'm back to eating right and I'm good. Its very tempting to try new things or old things that we used to eat but If you stick to eating the right things, you'll be good.

I had my bypass Jan,2017 and I never had a dumping problem, just try not to eat a lot and it's hard to do but eat a little at a time. I lost 60 to 70 pounds and I feel wonderful and looks great !!! People I worked with that I haven't seen in 15 yrs didn't even know who I was and I get that from people who was around me at the time I was larger. I don't use fat because that a bad word for others to feel good and to make you feel bad. I had the surgery for my health, I became a diabetic and had high blood pressure and high cholesterol. And now I'm free !!! So, go for it and do it for yourself, not for how someone feels about you because all of us large or small is beautiful.

Hi and good luck, best wishes to you! I was set on going with the sleeve, but my bariatric surgeon recommended the RNY due to my acid reflux and I've already read where folk are having revisions from the sleeve due to developing or worsening reflux issues. That was my main reason and I'm getting fine with it.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
