Protien shakes make me nauseous

Recommended Posts

Every time I drink my Protein Shakes I feel like I’m going to throw up and it’s making it difficult to get my Protein in. I got my sleeve 9/17 and I’m stressing.

Anyone else have this issue?

I tried the clear protein shakes, readymade, and powder and I can’t find one that doesn’t upset my stomach. Is this normal for gastric sleeve?

Have you tried watering them down with Water or (for extra protein) Fairlife milk? That may help. I did better with Protein waters like Protein20. They're more like drinking Koolade. Keep trying, you'll find something that works for you.

I had this problem a lot in the past. I have switched over to mostly vegan Protein Shakes and don't have the problem at all anymore. I make all of my shakes with unsweetened vanilla almond milk and I also make them on the thinner side, I can't get down with drinking a thick shake everyday.

If you don't want to switch to plant based Protein shakes, drinking ones made from whey protein isolate instead of just whey protein may help since they filter out the lactose.

Hope something works for you soon!

I am 5 days out with bypass and had this same issue. I figured out that I am having issues with lactose. Switched to muscle milk (nasty but doesn't make me literally hurt!) I'm waiting for my lactaid drops to come in to use the shakes I actually like. Maybe discuss it with your physician or nutritionist to see if they can help narrow down what is happening.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
