I got my date :) September 16th

Recommended Posts

I got word yesterday that my surgery date will be September 16th. It seems like a long time, but it will give me time to prepare. What did everyone do to help pass the time before surgery? I worry that they are not having me meet with a nutritionist even and I really want to get this right!

read, read, read. I spent a lot of time on internet forums (like this one) reading current and old threads, and also reading Web sites and books so I was SUPER prepared going into surgery.

Yes, I am in info junkie :) I plan to do exactly what you suggested! I suspect I will drive everyone here a bit nuts, lol. I spent an 2 hours at the store today reading labels.

Thank you both for your support!

I found a Protein Drink I liked. Then took the time to eat special meals that I really love. Got a Fitbit for counting steps and started logging meals on MyFitnessPal. The as the date came closer I started a list of those things I wanted to do once I lost the weight. Good luck on your journey! My date is July 30.

I have been researching Protein Drinks, which one do you like? I am even considering making some Soups and such for post op.

I am so excited for you, it sounds like you have made the very best of your time before surgery! I will be watching to see how your surgery goes. Best wishes!

I hate cooking or mixing or kitchen stuff, so I like Ensure Max it has 30g of Protein and 2 of those almost make my daily needs. I am also adding clear Premier Protein peach flavored to my caffeine-free ice tea. My doc said Clear Liquids for the first week so I have chicken broth low sodium, and they have a high protein vegetable broth at Publix. Then the second week is full liquids for 2 weeks then soft foods for 3 weeks. I think finding a protein drink that you like and can go to often is the most important part of this. Prior to surgery, I had a diet that included protein drinks, and again after the surgery and the remainder of your life.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
