Still Seeing you Doc?

Recommended Posts

I wonder how many people have actually seen thier surg since you have had your surgery. The place I went to get my Band I have only got to see him once before my surgery and at my operation. I have never seen him again since. Is that typical? I feel like sometimes my doctors office is an assembly line for surgeries and the pt care afterword is not really all that great.

I dont know about typical, but that's how its been for me (in Australia). All my pre op stuff was with the surgeon, the first two post op visits - including first fill were with him and then he told me I was right to see the doctor (whom I also met before surgery) but that I could always make an appointment to see him at ANY time I wanted to. He said to check in with him at six months, twelve months and then yearly intervals.

The doc I see has worked with banded patients a long time, knows everything he needs to know, is a wonderful guy and is also a sports medicine specialist to boot and has helped me a lot with my ankle issues. I have no real need to see my surgeon, they work as a team and run a great practice so I'm happy.

I go to the doctor's office once a month. I always see the physican's assistant who i love and if i have a problem i see the surgeon. The surgeon usually does a quick 1-2 min check in every other month if all is going well.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
