I just had my second follow-up visit after surgery and was told by dr. that I need to be eating more calories. I am currently eating between 500-700 calories a day and am literally full. I also have not figured out what is going to agree with my system yet and what is going to make me sick, so I have been sticking to safe options. But I was told that I need to be eating between 1000-1200 calories a day to loose otherwise my body will hold on to the weight. How long after surgery were you all eating that much in addition to drinking 64oz of water/liquids daily?

I am 4 months out and up to about 800 cal/day. I was eating about 500/day when I was a month out like you. My weight loss never stalled. I think consistent exercise helps.

LOL. I'm an outlier. 1000-1200cals per day is my maintenance.

To lose I have to be between 600-800cals/day of very nutrient dense foods.

I'm almost 8 months out and I'm still not eating that many calories (i'm barely reaching 900, not for lack of trying). You are about 1 month out..at that stage MyFitnessPal tells me I was doing 300-400. (but i remember I was going through a food aversion thing though)

Also, I have been able to drink well over 2L (67.6oz) since month 2...

We all have different needs, you will learn what works for you and what doesn't. So long as your labs/checkups come back good, you feel good and are losing weight and/or inches, then you are golden. If one or more aren't, adjust as necessary. :1007_hearts:

EDIT: forgot to add a disclaimer, that this works for me, and may or may not work for others, and also I am not advocating to ignore your medical professionals, just a reminder to listen/pay attention to our bodies, as well as our medical professionals, and make informed decisions based on the information you gather from all :)

Thanks! I knew that seemed like a lot to be eating at this stage but she was so adamant about it that I figured I ask.

You are still healing. Listen to your body. Some days you will be able to eat more than on other days. Some days solids will just not work and you will stick to your shakes. Some foods will work one day and not another. So strange, but like ms.sss said, if you feel good, have energy, losing inches, then do what works for you. I know at that point I absolutely could not have even considered 1000 cal/day. About 3 months out, I just started to feel a need for more calories. I was exercising a lot, and my body was saying that it needed more. At that point, I was able to tolerate more intake, but not before.

What you don't want to do is to forcing food down, advancing too quickly (even if your prescribed plan says so), and getting into issues with food getting "stuck." That is painful and irritating to the healing tissues.

Really? I wish my nutritionist had told me that! I've been stalled for two months eating 600-800 calories. Maybe I'm not eating enough.

No where near that, I was on full liquids the first week, then soft foods, and it progressed from there. I had a 6 week food plan given by my doctor. I lost 25-30lbs the first month.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
