Newbie from Coeur D'Alene

Recommended Posts

I am from Coeur D'Alene, Idaho. I am being banded next week in Seattle, WA. I am curently 295. I am very nervous and excited about this whole surgery. I have a 14 month old and my husband will be having to take over more of the baby duties until I recover enough. Am very scared to be put out. Am also scared that my little guy will want me to hold him or pick him up and I won't be able to for a week or two.

I start on my liquid diet before the surgery tomorrow.

Did anyone else get banded and have a little one to take care of. Experiences and advice is appreciated.

Hello & welcome! Congrats on your decision to be banded ... I returned home the day after my surgery and immediately resumed "Mommy Duties" ... at the time my little guys were 2 & 4. You should be OK, if he wants you to hold him just sit down and let him climb up onto your lap ... try not to do any lifting. Best of luck to you on your weight loss journey! :biggrin1:

Welcome Summer! I was fortunate to have my husband for a whole week so he could take care of our son, who was 18 months at the time. He was a big help. Take it easy for a while and don't over do it. I know that's easier said than done when you have a little one. Just be careful and let your little guy climb up on you. Good luck and hope you have a speedy recovery.

Summer,

May I ask why you are going all the way to Seattle to be banded? I was banded last week in Spokane and there are also Dr's in Post Falls. I would love to talk to you and have a buddy somewhat close by. You may call me if you want. email me and I will give you my # chefari@msn.com.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
