The Maintenance Thread

  • Popular Post

So thought I'd start this thread for those who are currently in maintenance (or are trying to be :) ), there are not as many active maintenance-ers on here, but I'm hoping for the ones that are, they can chime in and impart their wisdom for those are trying to achieve that coveted balance of weight stability.

...or we can just chat about whatever. LOL.

Loving tank tops and shorts in the summer. Air conditioning and Refrigerator/freezer isles at the grocery stores are killing me. Takes longer to warm back up. Pays off to keep a light jacket in the car.

NOoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ?

I have been taking multiple breaks to go stand outside in the sun because they turned on the air conditioning in the office today. I'm that reptile that has to go find a sunny rock to hang out on to survive.

Though I'm pretty sure I could fit a space heater under my desk...

Froze at first when I was losing. I got about 10 lbs below where I am now and didn't feel good, so adjusted goal up a bit. As soon as I put on the weight it actually helped a huge amount. Now I'm not cold all the time, yes I run way colder than I used to and lack insulation, but its not like it was before.. it's actually nice I don't need A/C. My wife is the exact opposite, hot constantly so we have quite the battle in our house with the HVAC

Another thing that happened was it HURT to sit, I lost the tailbone fat pad and it was painful, gaining the 10 lbs back solved that too, which was nice...

Maintainers: Do you still see your nutritionist/dietician? Do you still get your labs done periodically?

Maintainers: Do you still see your nutritionist/dietician? Do you still get your labs done periodically?

I have an appt once a year at the clinic - I see the surgeon and the dietitian (I also have the option to see the psychologist, but I never have). They do labs when I'm there for the annual appt.

My program has three dietician visits in the first year. Five yearly checkups with the surgeon. Honestly, after my first two years. I have not gone back to my surgeons check up's. I have blood work done with my family Dr.

If patients need more than the three dietician consults, The hospital has free bariatric cooking classes with nutrition information, behavior change classes and support groups. They have been offering these programs for many years. They will keep these programs if the hospital can afford it.

So after the not-so-successful jump from 600 to 1000 cals, I went down to 800 cals daily a week ago in attempt to slowly find my maintenance level.

Today I increase my calories to 900 a day (with macros set at 65g P, 56g F, 35g C for now).

The week at 800 still resulted in a loss of 1.9 lbs, which i sort of expected, but don't understand (the week when I was at 1000/day, i lost 2.5 lbs??)

As I said in an earlier post, I am no longer so occupied with the number on the scale but more so now about how small I am starting to look/am looking to myself. This continues to be an issue, and my level of sagginess seems to have increased at a faster rate these last few pounds.

Now, my newest concern is my reported body fat percentage. I have one of those scales that measure all that, and while I know that it fluctuates greatly depending on water retention and recent exercise activity, but for the past week I'd say I averaged about 19%. Now, I am not what someone would say is a "fit" person (where a "fit" woman averages 21-24%), so this gives me some pause. I mean, according to what I've read, I should be at 25-32% for a normal/average woman.

What are your fat percentages? And do you put any importance on this statistic to yourselves, personally?
