What happens if I don't drink enough Water? I was banded 10/5.. Seem to be loosing appropriately. Eating right, exercising almost enough, but I just can't get the water down... I'm too busy, let time get by, don't really like plain water, and the artificial sweetners give me diahrrea... so I have only been drinking about half of the recommended 64 ounces ... any feed back on this issue? I have avoided diet pop, but just recently started having a can a day or so, should I avoid carbonation... it didn't seem to bother me... and I hear a bit about drinking water at the right times of day...?? Obviously I avoid before and after a meal,,, any other advice there> comments appreicated. thanks

I am starting to get this drinking thing into a routine. In the morning I insist (to myself) that I drink a cup of Water before anything else. I have a large watered down combination of espresso/rice milk/ice that takes me through the morning. I drink a cup of water before eating, try to do it at least 15-30 min before eating. So, drink, then my meal is ready, and eat. Wait an hour, that part is hard, I get very thirsty. Then I drink like crazy. repeat.:)

I haven't had a problem getting my water in. I used to hate water and only drank it with the SF flavor packets. I guess my tastes have changed since surgery because now I hate the flavor packets and I love plain water. Carbonated drinks are on my list of things to avoid, although I'm not sure what the reason is behind it. Have you tried Stevia (it's a natural sweetener). If you like it, maybe you could add some fresh lemon juice and Stevia to your water and make your own lemonade.

I make sure I drink 2 cups of Water before my Breakfast and htem force myself to have more an hour after I eat breakfast and lunch. Teen again before dinner. I don't usually drink after dinner as I like to sleep through the night without getting up to go to the loo. I often add about 1 ounce of sugar free white cranberry juice to my water to flavour it tad. It is really good that way. I do not like the taste of the sugar free drinks as I find them too sweet. All I ever drink is water or clear tea.

Good luck with the water!

I was told that the carbonated drinks can cause stretching of your band and to stay away from them completely.

I also have had a rough time in getting the minimum 64oz of Fluid per day. I would say that I am at about 1/2 that. I bought a Dasani Water the other day which was 33oz. I figured if I could drink one in the AM and one in the PM, I have achieved my goal. Well, I think the first day I got the first 33oz down, and probably 10oz in the afternoon.

Have you tried Propel? It doesn't have artificial sweeteners but only has 20 calories in a 16-oz. bottle. It also has Vitamins and some kinds have added Calcium. It comes in several flavors, too.

The Water really helps with weight loss. Something has to carry all that mess away. I drink two 20 oz. before noon. I try to drink the last one at the gym later. Donna

I have a 1 liter jug that I got because the proceeds were going to fight breast cancer. Didn't know I would like it so much. I keep it near me as much as can and uaually drink 2 liters a day. Keeps my hands and mouth busy when I crave something. Sometimes I don't even know I'm drinking and all of a sudden it's empty.

I have a hard time getting Water in as well, but let me tell you the importance of water and staying hydrated; after being overfilled and not being able to get anything even water down, I became dehydrated and had to get all of my second fill out to bring me back to my first fill volume. Well, my fist fill volume I guess was my sweet spot, but I got greedy and wanted to be tighter. So after I got my second fill taken all out, I still had trouble getting anything down, it was weird cause I didn't have any problems getting anything down before. Well, come to find out not getting enough water makes your band feel tighter. The most important thing is to stay hydrated and I think it is more important for us now more than ever cause we can dehydrate faster post band. So my advice is try to get your water in, even if you have to put a schedule down on paper of when to drink and eat to remind you-do it.

Hi,

How does not drinking water make the band feel tighter? Interesting as I can't get any water down during the day and only a little at night and my band feels so very tight.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
