Effexor XR 150 mg-can I swallow??

Recommended Posts

Hi Swindy,

I get a jumpy feeling in my head if I miss a dose.

Although I did miss a dose the day of surgery and I was fine,

might have had something to do with all the other drugs they were pumping into me. But no, no bad side effects from missing my dose post surgery.

I am on Effexor too. The day after surgery I was opening them and putting them in yogurt on a spoon - after throwing up twice, I phoned my centre. Since then I have been taking 375 mg. in the mornings. I take each one very slow and drink. I have been banded three months ago and I have had 4 FILLS. No problems so far....

Hi! I'm being banded this Monday; and my doctor hasn't found an alternative to my Effexor XR. I'm going to follow the advice with the applesauce. My question is- can you swallow enough applesauce (the very next day after surgery) to get it down? I wig out if I miss two doses. Thanks! Pam Pittman

Effexor is a great drug but missed doses are a definite problem..... I think I've finally decided on bypass rather than banding so the Effexor issue will probably be a problem for the first few weeks. My pharmacist also said that applesauce is the best way to take it. I think you'll be ok with the Band. Good luck.

Everyone has been soooo great. I do get side effects after missing 2 doses. I get like little electrical charges in my head. Sounds weird, but that is what it feels like. Also, dizziness. It is really scary when I am waiting on my mail order prescription and it doesn't come timely!!!

That is why I really am not wanting to change doses right now. It has been working so well. I have changed meds and doses through the years. They seem to lose effectiveness after a couple of years. I will say that prayer helped alot the last time I had a depression episode! Congrats on the newest lapbanders!! Keep us posted! Only 9 more days til pre-op diet, and 23 days til surgery!!

I take Effexor XR 75 mg capsules, and I showed them to my doctor and he told me to that I could go ahead and take them. I was banded 4 days ago and I have taken the for the passed 2 days and they go down fine.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
