Hi,

I’m scheduled to have bypass surgery in 5 days. I already had my pre op appointment and all labs came back fine. I was smoke free for over 20 days. I recently smoked and was wondering if I will be tested for nicotine prior to surgery on the day of? Please help I’m nervous.

you should be okay

Thank you! Do they usually run the test right before surgery? Have you heard this happening to anyone? I figured they wouldn’t loss out on all of that money and do it but who knows.

Not if your surgeon feels you would be a Non- Healing risk. And also you've distressed and restressed your Lung Tissue and you really needed it at Peak Efficiency. Never smoked and I had gotten sleep Apnea, haven't been able to ditch my C*Pap, and I would be worse I believe if I had more history than just Second-Hand Smoke! But I do wish you success and hope things work in YOUR favor in a few days! ❤😝❤

I am not a smoker but regarding whether or not the surgeon will not do the surgery. My nurse told us that if we do not follow the pre OP the surgeon will stop the surgery and not move forward. Sometimes it's not about the money. Safety of the patient comes first.

Wishing you luck with your surgery.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
