Hi Jeff,

It took only a few days after surgery to feel okay and normal and up to two weeks to recover with energy. It takes a little longer to lift > 10 pounds and do more strenuous stuff, but you'll feel good right away. My best advice would be to try to start eating NOW like you'll be eating after surgery. Small meals, small portions, learning not to drink with your meals, etc. That'll make the transition easier.

I was on a 6 month high Protein low carb diet to shrink my liver and that worked perfectly according to my surgeon. It's best to cut out carbonated beverages and start drinking lots of Water. Taper down on the caffeine and start walking at least 30 minutes everyday. Good luck!

Not everyone will feel good right away after surgery, sorry to disagree. If you are an emotional eater, you may struggle directly after surgery with coping as a mechanism you have used to deal with feelings/emotions can no longer be used...I.e. food. This, coupled with some rapid weight loss in the first few weeks causes some emotional and hormonal happenings that we have seen on here, and many of us have experienced first hand. So do try to mentally prepare yourself for that. See a therapist if one is available to you.

Also, not drinking with meals is an abnormal behavior that is difficult to do with a normal size stomach. I would focus on cutting out soda, or drinking without a straw right now.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
