so glad i went to seminar , it has helped me to definitely make the choice to have this done.

i am seeking info from people who have had the surgery done in everett as to where u went for fills , travel times in winter , whether you drove , flew ect.

I haven't seen any BC-er's here who've had it done there, but who knows, there may be some lurkers that will reply. Just curious, why do you want to go to Washington rather than to someone in BC?

to my knowlege no one in b.c. does the surgery.

as well as there is only a 3 week wait list to have it done in everett as oppossed to 3 year wait lists for surgery here in b.c.

oh no no, you don't have to wait 3 years for the lapband anywhere in Canada (well, maybe the provinces that actually cover it could be getting to have that long of a list). You're probably thinking of the gastric bypass.

I think there are a couple guys doing banding in BC.... their patients will chime in with their names and info. How much is it in Everett?

You can get it for $16K in Canada even in BC with better aftercare than what they are offering, or $9950USD in Colorado with about the same level of after care.

$18K seems pretty pricey to me, I think that you could get a better deal.

I had mine done in July 2006 by Dr Leung in Surrey, BC. I paid approx. $14,000 and got back a couple of grand on my income tax. If you want more info, let me know.

I am BC'er. I opted to go south to Dr Kirshenbaum in Colorado. Price persuaded me as well as no wait time, which coordinated with my time off. I am seeing Dr. Woodhead in Delta for my aftercare and fills.

Most important thing to consider is making sure you have your aftercare set up prior to banding.

Good luck to you!

Hi: If you are from BC there is a support group meeting every third Wednesday at the Lions Gate Hospital. Two of the ladies that attend went to your clinic I believe. They travel to the States to get fills. You are welcome to come to our meeting before and after surgery. I do know the clinic they attended in washington state is apparently very good. Doddie

Doddie - When is the next support group meeting at Lions Gate Hospital? Where in the hospital is the meeting held? Thanks for any information you can provide.

Hi: GurlyGirl: We are a small group that was started by Patricia who comes all the wayin from Whister. We meet at the Lions Gate Hospital every third Wednesday (November 21) in conference room C.

Directions: Come in the main entrance. The coffee shop is on the left as you come thru the doors. Straight ahead to the Gift Shop turn a sharp right, thru two double doors down corridor and then a right and we meet in the first room on the right. We would love to see you. Patricia has put in a lot of time and effort to set up this room (it is free to us) and we are all hoping other Bandsters in the lower mainland will join us. Please come, and meet us. Doddie.

Thanks for the info Doddie.

I won't be able to make it on the 21st. We are taking the kids to Disney on Ice that night, but maybe I can make the next one.

Is it every third Wednesday of the month (19th December)? or every third Wednesday (12th December)?

Hmmmmm, good question. I believe it is every 3rd wednesday of the month. In fact I am sure. Pat posts the meeting on the Canadianlapbanders and the BC WLS site. If you are a member of either, just watch for the posting. If you don't find it, feel free to e mail me and I will tell you. I think I gave you my private e mail. Doddie.

Hi people :)

I just saw this thread and wanted to reply !!!

Tara, I had my surgery done in WA state by NWWLS. I could have stayed in BC to have it done but the wait was going to be approximately 2 years and I'm an impatient sort :rolleyes

There are 3 surgeons in BC that do the surgery...

Dr. Leung in Surrey

Dr. Woodhead in Delta

Dr. Amson in Victoria (altho he primarily does RNY/bypass)

I can honestly say that the care I recieved at NWWLS was amazing and I would recommend them to anyone. When I need to make an appt they do everything they can to schedule me in because they know its a long trip for me. (I live 100 miles north of Vancouver). I have now had my band for a year and have lost 100lbs. If you have any questions about my journey with them feel free to email me privately or post here (canadagirl33@hotmail.com)

As for the support meeting in North Vancouver....we met up a couple of nites ago for our monthly meeting and it was decided that we would skip the December meeting because it was just too close to Christmas. So the next scheduled meeting will be on Jan. 16th/08 (the 3rd wednesday of every month) Hopefully some of you will join us !!!

Patricia

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
