Pre-op Tips & Tricks

Recommended Posts

I’m on day 4 of my pre-op diet. Surgery is shcheduled for December 10th! I am so excited after preparing for this all year long! 😁 Anyway, I was looking for other people’s tips and tricks for pre-op. Surgeon advised 4-5 Protein Bars or shakes per day and 1 meal of lean Protein & veggies per day. Any advise would be appreciated!

also get Protein Water. It will help with the protein in case you do not get all the shakes in. Also check with your Dr. Mine also said 4-5 but it had to be the lower protein g.. not the 30 because then we would be taking in way too much protein. I spaced my Protein Shakes out for every few hours in between my meal times. I had broth for a meal to keep some kind of normalcy. ( I could not have food at all, it was strictly liquid.)

Congratulations! You got this!

Congrats on your upcoming surgery. This is the time to make your transition easier.

Get off all caffeine. You don't want caffeine headaches with the pain of surgery.

Stop drinking all sodas, even Decaf ones.

Start drinking lots of water/non-cal decaf liquids.

Walk daily.

Start logging your foods to find a method that works best for you.

Collect some post-op recipes to try.

Take some full-body photos of yourself. It really helps to see how far you've come.

Get your measurements. Again, this is really great at times when your scale is being a b!tch 😉

Good luck!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
