Lapband Replacement

Recommended Posts

So I am scheduled to have my lapband revised/replaced tomorrow morning. Currently I have no restriction and a leak somewhere (port or tubing.)

My doctor recommended I have it fixed, which I was surprised because the sleeve is so common.

I feel like no matter what surgery, it takes meal prepping and planning so that’s why I want to try the band again. Any suggestions?!

Totally your call. Personally, getting the band removed was one of the best things I ever did. I'm so happy with my revision to bypass, I've hit a goal weight that was not going to be possible with the band alone. If it were me, and you were facing surgery anyway... I'd move to another WLS. The Band is being phased out, a few major manufacturers don't even make parts anymore. Not trying to be anything other than real and honest here, too many people see facts and take them as a negative, if the band works and you want to try it again, by all means. But I can't see posts like this and not advise that the band is on it's way out, less and less surgeons are installing them and there are plenty of reasons for that.

Either way, good luck on your decision!

The people I know that have had a second or third band have never managed to achieve the same level of success they did when they first got banded. Potentially you may have lots of scar tissue and adhesions. At some point in your future this band is probably going to stop working or cause issues that require a revision. Why put yourself through that, especially because as Matt says bands are being phased out as they have been proven over time not to be the successful tool that they were initially thought to be.

I would be considering my options and looking at something that hopefully won't need another revision 5 or 10 years down the line

I'm another failed band converted to mini-gastric bypass. It's early days for me but I second / third the previous posters. Bands are so finicky. Plus if you go bypass it is theoretically reversible if you're worried about changing your anatomy.

We had a member here have a reversal this year. This is something I wish more people understood, The sleeve puts 90% of your stomach into the trash, the bypass just rearranges things, but everything is still in there.

As I told my in-laws "I'm just re-jigging the plumbing a bit"

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
