I’m 6 weeks post op and transitioning into regular foods. I haven’t had any trouble so far but lately I’ve been craving just a plain burger with ketchup (no bun ofcourse). I just got a burger from Burger King with nothing on it and bunless but I’m a little skeptical about trying it. Has anyone had a burger at this point of their post op?

Some do OK on ground beef, while others have problems tolerating it; I would avoid trying anything new out in public. I would probably also be a bit more skeptical about a fast food burger vs. a home cooked one for starters - never quite know what is in those.

My wife had some tolerance issues with ground beef, and our doc said that it was not an uncommon thing, and suggested that good quality steak, like filet, is often better tolerated - the best Rx we have ever gotten from an MD!

Give it a try - what have you got to lose (other than your cookies....)

I am 3 weeks post op and have been eating a half of a turkey burger for dinner nightly. Of course I "chew chew chew"...Lol. I haven't had any difficulties, EXCEPT that I try to eat it too quickly. I did have a hamburger patty this evening and had no issues with it either. My only bit of advice is to eat it very slowly.

thanks for the advice! Maybe ill just pass on the fast food burger patty and get a lean ground beef and make it myself, I'm sure the taste will be better as well!

I tried ground beef in week 4 and It did not sit well at all. It was the 1st time anything made me vomit. I'll wait awhile before I try it again.

I’ve had more trouble with burgers than most anything else. Got a “protein style” cheeseburger at In-N-Out (lettuce instead of bun) with the family, ate 2/3 of the patty, and it took hours for the sense of overfull tightness to pass

My first restaurant meal post-op was at about 7 weeks, and I had a "pizza" burger (no bun) which was really just a burger patty topped with marinara sauce and shredded mozzarella. It was delicious, but I could only eat about a third of it, plus a few bites of whatever veggie I had on the side.

Ground beef was too much for me until aboutn ~2 months post-op, however, ground turkey (93/7) was fine. Not sure why the difference, but I've since stuck with ground turkey as a staple and rarely eat ground beef anymore.

I did fine with ground beef. My first food into soft food stage was meatloaf. You won't know until you try it. I do recommend getting the leanest version possible, and rinsing the meat (to get the excess grease out), if you grind it up.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
