Post-op severe nausea

Recommended Posts

Hello

I am 6 days post op, and for the last 5 of those have had debilitating and constant nausea. I hadn't seen this as a symptom in any of the research I did and I am quite miserable. Has anyone else had this? How long did it take to go? I'm at my wits' end so would really appreciate any insights or experience shared.

Many thanks

Not sure the band should be causing nausea... have you talked to your surgeon about this yet?

I’ve talked to the nurses. They say the band is just really enflamed. But I’m getting Water down (although certainly not enough), it’s just I feel so sick all the time. I am absolutely miserable

Try altering the temp of the Water to see if that helps any. Maybe some super cold water will help with swelling?

Hello Peridot,
I’m so sorry you are having issues with nausea. I just had my lap band surgery this past Thursday, 6/28. I have not experienced any nausea. I’m still on the clear liquid phase, but have no issues with Water, Crystal Light, Jello or broth. I start the liquid diet tomorrow. My doctor did prescribe 5 different meds after my surgery for acid reflux, nausea, blood clotting, pain and ulcers that I have to take for 2 weeks. The nausea medication I take every 4 hours which dissolves under my tongue is called Ondansetron. I go back on 7/12 for my first follow-up appointment. I hope you are feeling better soon and look forward to hearing about your progress.

Well, it took 10 days and a de-fill to stop feeling and being sick. Best guess was that the band was pressing on my Vegas nerve (that can’t possibly be the right name! I must have this wrong) which controls nausea. I felt better by the next day.

I have to do fluids for an additional week - and my sneaky body has suddenly wised up and I’m now putting ON weight (at c500-600 cals a day).

Really hoping I don’t get nausea after every fill

I’m so glad you are feeling better, Peridot. That’s great news and hopefully your next fill will not cause the same issue. I wish you the best of luck!!!

I haven’t had my first fill yet. I go back on 7/12 but that will only be 2 weeks post-op. I dont think I will have my first fill until 4 to 6 weeks post op. Should know more after my follow-up visit.

I look goward to hearing about your success😄

Ah, you’re ahead of me so please let me know how the fill goes! How are you feeling? Are you on the purée stage?

Not yet. I just started the liquid stage yesterday. I had Protein Shakes, yogurt and cream Soup with no issues. I was on Clear Liquids the 1st 3 days. I should start the puréed stage on 7/13 and regular foods on 7/27. Can’t wait!! I’ve been on liquids since 6/21. I’m ready for some variety.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
