Hi everyone, let me introduce myself. My name is Carla I had my gastric sleeve surgery on March 1st 2018. I decided to do it because I don’t want to have in the future health problems like diabetes, heart problems and high blood pressure as my family does. Many members of my father’s family are obese and have these problems. When I get my surgery I had an BMI of 31, high insulin, insulin resistance and a lot of % of fat. My weight was 78.5 kgs when I did my surgery ( maybe many of you are wondering why I had my surgery, but I have learned that is not about weight, is about being healthy). My current weight is 64 kgs, I have lost fat but also muscle. By the end of May I reached my first goal weight 60 kgs but I still haven’t reached my % of fat goal ( I am still obese on the chart of % of fat). My old pants doesn’t fit as it used to be. ( last year I gained 18 kgs in 6 months). I am still fighting to get back on track and reach my goals. My final goal is to weight 50 kgs and % of fat around 21%.

I have a slower process than the average of patients because I began to have nausea when I begin eating solids. On that time, because of my nausea I wasn’t eating too much( like 300-400 calories per day). It had the consequences that I was feeling very weak, tired and I haven’t been approved to go back to gym yet. My doctor prescribed me some medicines for my nausea like 20 days ago and it really helped, my nauseas went away. So I am still being trying solid food. I am actually eating small portions and I feel full for long time during the day. But I had the problem that my calories intake wasn’t high enough to do exercise on the gym. My nutritionist told me to eat every 2 hours (even if I was not feeling hungry) to have more calories per day. Since June began I have been eating that way because I want to go to the gym but and I also gained 4 kgs already :-(. I have to figure out what to do. Maybe now it’s time to go to the gym.

That have been my journey so far. Nice to being part of this community.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
