I know we have to start somewhere... But I finally bit the bullet today.... I booked my first consultation. I know it's a long road and already starting to fret about it. The Secretary stated that the consultant does a day of tests and would include an endoscopy. How bad is an endoscopy? Does it hurt? Are you asleep or sedated? I am a big fretter and wondering what other type of tests they usually do for the day of tests. I know it's usually a psychotherapist aswell... excited but nervous at the same time.

I didn't have to do an endo for my testing, but I had one done years ago. You're out for it. So, no worries! I just had to do labs. I know that some have to do labs, ekg, xrays, etc. It's not a big deal though

Endoscopy is super easy and super quick. You're out for about 20-30 minutes and you wake right up. I had mine done at 10AM and was able to go to lunch with hubby on our way home from the appointment.

Please don't obsess about it...it's a piece of cake.

Doesn't hurt 1 iota. Be very glad you are where you are. US , Canada UK NZ Australia and I'm sure Ireland we are asleep. Main Europe, many areas they have you upright, spray your throat, and do,it while you're barely sedated if at all. Glad God didn't see fit to plant me in such a benightened area.
I have had 2 of those myself, my last December 2017 by my gastroenterologist, my previous in June 2015 by a general surgeon. My. GI doctor Dr Mujataba was wonderously gentle,i went to sleep, had just spoke a greeting to him, and I was out, woke up back in the edge of the ED, no pain, no throat soreness, no headach or anything. The only reason I was in the edge of ED was because of my age. Did I mention before I became 72 26 December last?
With the General. surgeon, sore throat, achy and felt like a wolf had chewed on my head. Both times. I received a paper with pictures of my insides. Super interesting.
So. have gastritis, a hiatal hernia, GERD and a lovely picture of Hector my little baby ulcer.
I also had consultations with a pulmonologist for lungs, cardiologist for heart, sleep specialist to check out degree of sleep apnea, Daddy had pretty badly, tendency is often inherited. A psychologist to check my degree of craziness, I'm Irish don't most think us a tad crazy?
A dietician/n

you have to see an exercise physiologist or life coach ,I did not. Don't know why,my phone is being obtuse, it's posting in the middle of paragraphs and partly in the middle of sentences.
This will be more than worth the effort, I know it is for me.

I didn't have to have endoscopy but had one before and it's a piece of cake like previous people have stated. Did the usual ekg, echocardiogram, blood work, and had to drink white stuff while they had me strapped to this table turning upside down and sideways while they took pictures to see how I swallowed and how my stomach was. All tests were nothing to fret about. You will be fine. Good luck on your journey

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
