Second thoughts

Recommended Posts

Scheduled for surgery May 17 and i haven’t told a lot of people. Number 1 I’m nervous I’ve never had any type of surgery. Also on top of that the very few people who know all aren’t supportive but there’s a good amount who are but many seem to think I dnt need it by which one is my mom. I’m 31 years old 282 lbs and i really have struggled over the years with my weight and have been boarderline diabetic and hypertension. Has anyone else dealt with similar backlash? Btw my wife and I doing it together

I've had quite a few surgeries and this one was quite easy--it's laparoscopic and fairly quick. I didn't have a lot of criticism from people but I wouldn't have listened to it if I did--facts are facts, and the facts are 1) People who lose weight traditionally almost always gain it back--so this surgery at least gives you a fighting chance of losing significantly and keeping it off; and 2) The risks of the surgery (very low) are much less than the risks of being obese. Additionally, it's not only quantity but also quality of life that you stand to gain.

Best of luck to you and your wife!

Second thoughts are very normal. I had a few myself but I am ultimately very glad that I did this because some new options are opening up to me that would have been closed had I remained where I was. I faced some backlash from my father but I don't really have a relationship with my father anyways so his opinion was/is irrelevant. I am happy you are doing something about your situation now. I am 10 years older than you and I had full blown diabetes and hypertension. Now that I am post-op, my diabetes is gone but I still have sleep apnea. It's good that you and your wife are going through this together. You'll support each other.

It is normal to have second thoughts, but once you have had surgery you will wish you had done it sooner. I have told a lot of people because I don't care what they think and I haven't had any negative feedback, even had friends walk pass me not recognizing me, I find it funny.

The only second thoughts I had was when I woke from surgery and thought what have I done but that was the time. I don't regret having it at all.

I was scared as hell! The first thing I said when I woke up was “I’m alive.”.People make me laugh. You can’t win with some, they’re not supportive if your fat and if you want surgery they don’t like that either. The surgery was a breeze,I was up and walking the halls that day.I had the surgery because I was scared because my weight was going to kill me.I will say you are a very lucky man because your wife is doing this with you!

I have been thinking about surgery for years and keep second-guessing myself. Everyone around me says that I just need to "try harder," but I'm the one who has been yo-yo dieting for decades and always gaining the weight back. Unless you have struggled with weight issues yourself, you can't understand what it's like. I finally pulled the trigger and am having gastric bypass in February 2019, and I'm going through with it this time. This is for me, my health and my future, and I don't care what anyone else thinks.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
