Pooping is stressful!

To much info...maybe but hey with this type of surgery might as well put it all out there, I'm sure it won't be the last poop post! So I'm 9 days out. Haven't had BM since the day of surgery, called doc today he suggested doing a suppository....well that didn't take long to get things sliding! It wasn't pleasant...at all. I was afraid to push because i was afraid of straining too much. It was like having pregnancy contractions your body just pushes on its own. Seriously. I start freaking out thinking I'm going to create a leak trying to poop...i just wanted to **** and get off the pot! Ugh i think that endeavor was more stressful then surgery!

This is majorly TMI....but seriously, folks....a bulb syringe and some warm soapy water....just a squirt or two...makes a world of difference. No straining, no cramps. Kinda gross for some folks, bu

  • I found the Kirkland brand stool softeners worked fairly well. On the opposite end of the spectrum, I had to cut my run short this morning and walk the last mile home with my cheeks clenched for dear

Just an FYI, got mine at costco and it came with two of them.

Thanks! Amazon seemed a bit high. Will look at Costco and Sams online.

Why is constipation so common with the surgery? Are we able to take miralax immediately after surgery?

Mostly liquid diet ... very little fiber ... not much food volume .... opioids after surgery

I agree with allwet. I suffer from chronic constipation. Been using Miralax every day for 10 years now and it works. Very safe as well.
You seriously can do some damage from going without BM for too long or straining too much.

So how much do you use?

I think because is everything they give you in the hospital before and after surgery. And everything kinda had to 'wake up' after. Some people use miralax some use milk of magnesia depends on what your doctor advises.

One cap full every single day. I add it to my coffee or my water. Disolves easily and tasteless.

It draws water to the colon so softens as well. best to drink lots of water after taking it which we have to do anyway. No bad or harsh side effects

Sadly, it is member only there https://www.costco.com/Squatty-Potty-Toilet-Stool-2-pack.product.100318703.html

I have a Sams membership but they don't seem to carry them.

I’ve been wondering about this!! I just finished my 6 month supervised diet on Monday so I’m still waiting to hear back from insurance before I can schedule surgery. Both of my kids were c-sections and I had the hardest time pooping afterwards. I’ve been wondering what this first one will be like after surgery as I’m having the gastric bypass.

I logged in to check for you . They’re 39.99 for the two. Months ago when I purchased mine they were on sale for 10.00 off.

Thanks. That is the same price that Amazon has for a two pack. Good to know that I did not overpay.

I'm 11 days post op, still nothing, tried smooth move tea early this afternoon noon & nothing:( when should I start to worry?

Omg! I’m glad this topic came up. I’m 3 days out and I have the same problem and I’m so scared to rip anything inside. I have a step stool I’m gonna try this see if it helps... I’m just glad I’m not the only one.

I was 8 days out without having a BM so i called my doc and they said to do a suppository that day. Dulcolax. That would be your best bet 11days is a long time. They like it to be 3-5days after surgery.

I use a step stool, works great! I wish i had used one during my first BM after surgery. I was so afraid I was going to damage something. That's why i said it's stressful! Lol
