So I’ve been told to eat between 1000-1200 calories a day. I aim for around 200 calories per meal. I’m starting to wonder if 1200 measly calories is to much! I’m very curious. HOW MUCH DO YOU ALL EAT?

My doctor told me not to focus on calories. They said my focus should be on 90 to 110 grams of Protein a day and making sure I get all my fluids in. They said after 6 months I could start thinking about calories and they would discuss it in my 6-month follow-up.

For now I'm sticking to the goal of getting 90-100g of Protein in daily. This is what I understand the goal of my program to be. It just so happens that I'm at about 580 calories per day. Of course I'm still on full liquids. Calories may creep up a little one pureé starts.

I’m tracking on an app & I get in my Protein but still end up around 1200 calories.

Been there done that. Have had no problems getting my Protein but still have to question calorie intake. I’m not saying I’m at a stall this early on by any means but the whole process seems like slow motion to me. I’ll be 9 weeks out tomorrow (Thursday).

850-1000 according to myfitness pal. 3 meals of 250-350 calories each. i target 90 grams Protein with 30 of that from Protein Drink. then fat, carbs and less than 5 grams sugar per day. i eat at 12, 4, 8 and do morning workouts cause thats what works for my schedule.

I’ve been tracking everything on a xls sheet so I can keep running average. I’ve been between 800 and 1200 calories on average since probably 6 weeks out. In the last 2 months I averaged 1100 calories daily, around 95 grams of Protein and 75 ounces of Fluid. I also exercised on average 5 days a week (anything from biking 10 miles to a 30 minute walk, but usually a few days of something very intense). My daily food ranges from 600-1300 calories. I’m low carb as well.

My nutritionist wants me having slightly more calories because of my high level of exercise. Weight loss has been around 3-4 lbs a week and seems to be staying around that level.

I'm almost always in the 1200-1500 range right now at nine months post-op. My dietitian increased my calorie intake a bit following my six-month follow-up visit based on my increased ability to exercise. Typically, I'll hit 100-110g Protein and I'm not perfect so my calorie count does include a cookie now and then. At this point I'm running ~4 hours a week and doing strength training 2-3 times a week, so I try to stay closer to 1500 cal/day. Weight-loss wise, I've shed about 85% of my excess weight (225 being my initial goal, but looking at myself at 243 right now I think I should aim for something lower than 225) so I am only losing a pound or two a week right now. That's the way it goes so I'm fine with that, have still seen difference in measurements & clothes fitting over the past few months despite the slower weight loss.

That sounds great! I was told to eat every 3 hours & I also can’t help but wonder if that’s to much. I’ve been eating nearly no carbs/sugar.

That’s awesome! I need to bump my exercise up a notch for sure!

@Seahawks Fan It may take a bit but I think you'll find the sweet spot eating-wise. I don't like eating between meals because it throws me off. I think I am just going to stick to three a day and an afternoon snack. My aim is, once I restart food, is to do this and not eat after 7PM.

Amazing! Yet another example of why I need to increase my exercise. My calories are near what everyone else is eating. It’s hard to get to the gym as often as I’d like. Time to increase my effort & buy out the needed gym time.

There’s another great point! Eating past 7PM is not easy at times but I need to do this as well. That was another much needed reminder.

Yes, it isn't easy at all. Also, a lot the eating done in the evening is mindless. I remember from the behavioral classes that I had to take in the pre-op phase, the dietitians and psychologists said that eating needs to be a mindful behavior and when it is done at night, it is often mindless and done to fill up time.

I was eating similarly initially and then the nutritionist said that I should only eat when I was hungry outside of 3 normal meals. She did say if I needed more meals to hit Protein goals I could do that too. Since I switched to that the loss sped up again. I'm often so busy during the day that I've only had 3 normal meals by 7 or 8 pm and then to catch up for protein I'm eating dense protein from 8 - 10. If I do a better job spacing things out I will often treat myself with something as an evening snack (like nuts or cottage cheese), which feels great.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
