Being banded tomorrow (31st Oct)

Recommended Posts

Hi,

It is 9.25pm here in New Zealand, and I am having my op tomorrow. This is what I have been pushing for on and off for years. It is what my last 2 weeks of Optifast (amazingly I stuck to it) have all been about. So why is it that I am now so scared???

The pressure on me to make this succeed is enormous as I am not even self-pay - my mum has stumped up the cash because she so wants me to lose the weight. What if I do this and still can't regulate my eating?

After the first 2 days on pre-op diet I haven't been hungry at all, but worry that once I start taking in normal(ish) food again that my hunger will be back with a vengeance (especially since I can't have a fill until at least 9 weeks.

Please can all you wonderful supportive people who have already been banded help me out???

Good Luck to you! If you follow the band rules, you will lose weight! It's only normal to have all the emotions you are feeling right now. We'll see you in bandland!

The days before surgery are full of emotions. When it is done you will be soo glad. Just as you made the choice to have the surgery, and the choice to stay on the preop diet, You will also be able to make the right food choices. One step at a time. You can do this!!!

Thank you both for your support - it's now 3am and I'm back awake (not surprising really)

See you in Bandland!!!

Being banded is not something to be taken lightly, so if you have fears and worries that is completely normal. Just take them one at a time, and work them out. Have faith. Yesterday I was feeling pretty blue, but after talking it out here I feel pretty good today. Good luck on your journey; it is going to be a beautiful ride!

kathryn, you'll do great and you'll make your mom and yourself proud. Keep checking back. I think this site is better support than the group that the hospital has for support.

Good luck, you will do just fine. I had the same feelings but the day after surgery I knew I could do this and you can too!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?
