Hi everyone! I finally have my surgery date set for April 4th! I set everything up with the surgery coordinator at my surgeons office and then asked what I should start eating and she said “ ask your nutritionist.” I was pretty shocked by this. I was expecting a packet maybe, with a specific plan but nope nothing. She was kinda rude about me not choosing a nutritionist at the same hospital. Anyways my nutritionist has really been more of a therapist and hasn’t had experience with bariatric surgery patients.

Does anyone still have their pre op diet plans that they could text/ email me a picture of? I’m struggling to find info on the internet and I want a good plan to follow.

also anyone here struggle with low sugar drops while trying to eliminate carbs/ sugar? This week I’ve tried to reduce sugar and carbs and feel a little dizzy, shaky in the afternoon so I end up eating something sugary to take the shaking away. Any advice?

I am wondering about the pre op diet as well. My nutritionist said to do the low fat full liquid diet. That sounds crazy to me. I don't even have my surgery date yet. I thought she would put me on a low carb diet. Got any idea why I would benefit from low fat full liquid diet now??

Now that just sounds nuts! I’ve been reading a lot online and I know the liquid diet helps to clear your system and make sure there aren’t any chunks of food in your system so I get that. A Protein based diet with zero carbs and sugar puts us in ketosis and basically helps our fatty liver shrink so it’s easier to perform the surgery. If you don’t even know when your surgery is going to be than I think it’s crazy to be on all liquid! The crazy thing about the pre op diet is that everyone has such different instructions!! Some people do a liquid diet two week before surgery and I’ve talked to someone that only had a liquid diet 3 days before surgery! I wish there was a cookie cutter answer for this

I started my pre-op diet yesterday. 1 week before my surgery on 3/28. I have 2 Premier Protein shakes per day 4 to 5 hours apart. I can also have coffee, 1-2 cups broth, low calorie drinks, sugar free Jello and sugar free ice pops. Also tons of Water. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
