ITCH LIKE CRAZY & RASH! OMG

Recommended Posts

I’m going insane from itching & rash on my stomach. It seams to be mostly where I was shaved prior to surgery & my incisions are a little red but not a concern. I’ve been doing very well in most every aspect but this itch is driving me absolutely nuts! Anyone else experience this or have any ideas as to what’s causing it or how to remedy it? I’m about ready to go to the doctor for it. I’m one week post-op today.

Bless your heart. I wish I knew an answer

They told us in our preop instructions, not to shave on our stomach or near the incision site. I thought that was weird for them to say that ( I don't shave my stomach, I'm a woman ) but now, reading your post, I understand why.

Bless your heart.

I'm sorry, ask the doctor what cream will help

What’s the rash look like? It could be a rash due to the adhesives on the steri strips or the glue they use to close the skin wounds. Unfortunately the only real thing for that is benedryl. Your an take it orally and/or use a benedryl cream. Anti histamine creates may help too. They also put some disinfectant stuff on (you probably noticed your stomach was weirdly colored), that can cause some dryness and irritation, so some moisturizer might be a good idea.

I broke out in a nasty rash from the steri strips. I am allergic to them. In my hospital bin I brought home was some soap, hibiclens. I washed with it twice a day for three days then once for a week. Instantly in calmed the itching, and tone the redness and inflammation. Of course I removed the steri strips. I cannot take Benadryl, it reacts badly with other medications take.

Broke out from hibicleans and have, been stapled and sutures for other surgeries. Must talk this over with my surgeon. Allergic to latex and adhesives going in but he's a smart dude and,i bet together we'll work something out. I'm sorry this post is fragmented but I sneezed and submitted the first half.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
