How do you stop weight gain

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I’m 13 months post opp. My weight has been up and down lately and I gained nearly 10 pounds. How can I stop this from increasing? I haven’t done anything diet change wise so I’m not sure why this is happening and I’m starting to get worried

Should I go to the gym more? I already go 3/4 times a week.

Completely cut out carbs?

Any helpful ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

I was thinking about calling my doctor and asking him what to do, he’s a little mean so I’m trying to avoid telling him bad news at all cost

I mean, mine said to call if I gain 8-10 lbs, so I’d call. Especially if your diet actually hasn’t changed.

Are you keeping a food journal? If not, start logging your intake, it's easy to underestimate how much we're actually eating, either in portion size or eating small amounts through the day that add up. Are you getting enough Water, enough sleep?

Go ahead and call your docs office, you may end up talking to someone else in the office that is nice and more helpful. (Fingers crossed!)

@goldenbarbie

What does a typical day's consumption look like for you? How many calories do you take in? Carbs? Protein?

I'm not sure how much weight you have lost overall, but as your weight diminishes, the number of calories you need to maintain or lose diminishes as well...

No I don’t track food, that’s a great idea I will start tomorrow. Getting 40-60oz of water in, my stomach still can’t take much which is weird cause of how far out I am. I literally can’t eat much so I don’t know why this is happening

I don’t track food like that I honestly just base everything off protein every meal protein, so far I lost 130. I’m currently 180 but 2 week ago I was 170

If you start tracking, this will give you some data and an opportunity to do some analysis to make the needed changes. That will help you get a handle on the problem. :)

Did you reduce your calories and macros to account for your weight loss?

Are you pre-op or post-op? If you are post-op, how long ago was your surgery?

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
