I am heading into the home stretch. Surgery is in about 2.5 weeks. I started my modified liquid diet several days ago (one solid meal, otherwise liquid) and in 3 days I start my full liquid diet. I have the clearance and everything looks like it’s going well.

But I feel like things are starting to fall apart. I had a colonoscopy early in the week and learned I’m having a mild Crohn’s flare (was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease 12 years ago, been in remission for 10+ years, off medication for 8 years). Then my blood pressure has spiked (surgeon is sending me back to the cardiologist). My resting heart rate is low (average 50 bpm) which led to me receiving medication before my colonoscopy. I feel like _I’m_ just falling apart.

Did anyone else experience something similar? As you are coming into the home stretch, things just coming apart? I suspect that each thing is contributing to a snowballing effect....but it’s really bothering me and causing me so much anxiety.

I think I’m just looking for someone to tell me that everything is going to be OK.

Thanks for reading/listening.

It will be ok! I felt anxious when I started the liquid diet 10 days before (sleeved 10/17) the journey is not an easy one. But the day of surgery, I had no anxiety at all. I think partially because it was an elected surgery. I didnt have to have it, I chose to. Keep your head up, better days are ahead. I always say in order for there to be a rainbow, we need some rain. The storms will pass. Good Luck and God Bless!

Thanks....I think I just need to hear this, from someone other than my husband (who had his surgery on 10/4). His was so easy (or seems that way to me) that I just don’t think he gets the doubts.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
