Post Surgery gastric bypass

Recommended Posts

I went through my surgery on the 10th. I can tell you it was much rougher than I thought it would be. Spent one night in hospital, doctor recommended two but I was cash payment.

now that I have been home 3 days the pain seems to be almost as bad. I did get very lucky and no gas pains, but I walked a long way 3x a day even on day of surgery.

now the struggle is real just to get Water down. I had nauseathefirst four days but seems to be better today.

trying hard to get Protein and water in but it is hard!!! I keep belching and stomach makes a strange noise after I drink.

also I weigh more now than went I went under the knife?! How could that be I gained 5 lbs?!

hope you all have a good weekend.

I found that each day was a little better. But it wasn't until about the sixth month that I reach my happy state when all the problems seemed to melt away.

When you were in the hospital they pumped your body full of fluids. As a result when you leave, generally you are several pounds heavier than when you entered the hospital. Generally you will lose this Water weight in the first week.

After surgery your body is in a major heal mode. Therefore it is common for patients to be unable to meet their Protein and Fluid daily requirements at the beginning. Just keep trying to reach this goal and you should be able to get there in a week or two.

I wrote about my experience in the following article. You might find something helpful there. http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery.pdf

It takes some time to meet those Protein and liquid goals. Every day will be a little easier than the day before. Then one day you'll wake up in the morning and realize nothing hurts! Later that same day, you'll drink too fast and invent a new swear word! But each day it will get easier, and you'll start seeing the results you want. Hang in there!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
