Twisted wrong during the night and now I have belly pain

Recommended Posts

I had surgery on 8/23/17, and aside from needing an IV last week for dehydration, I have been doing very well. Last night I was half asleep and went to turn from my belly to my side, and my torso twisted slightly and I experienced a sharp pain in my abdomen. It's above my belly button in the middle, probably closer to my ribs than my belly button. It has been rather sore so far today, and I have tightened my binder and apply pressure with a pillow to help support it.

I'm expecting a checkup call from my nurse today, and I will be sure to bring it up. But I wanted to ask if this happened to anyone else, and if it is normal or if I did damage. I hope I didn't do something bad to my abdominal muscles :/

Thank you! It turned out to be my muscles being tired. Prior to going to sleep that night, I had this rush of energy and was doing light cleaning, and lots of moving around. I simply did too much, and it's not a problem anymore. It was just sore for about half the day, and I listened to my body, rested, and it was gone by the next evening.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
