Pre op must haves!?!

Recommended Posts

I know some docs and nuts have different pre op diet plans but my allowed must haves were ice pops...its the only thing you can really chew during this time, and I really REALLY missed the action of chewing my food lol. Besides that I would go to the local japanese restaurant and order a quart of their clear Soup to go...just scoop out the mushrooms. The sodium in that was probably a bit high but my doc didn't seem to mind that. Good luck!! You got this!

I couldn't have done it without the right attitude.

Just know the first couple days on liquid diet you will be hungry, cranky, tired, weak, etc. On the 3rd day I was fine
And started to be satisfied to the point I did not feel like I was starving. I miss chewing food, SF popsicles are great!
I am on day 8 and I feel I will make ok until the 12th for my surgery. Good luck!

I m scheduled for September 18th and just started the pre liquid diet 3 days ago. Today I find myself gagging at the smell of the Protein Shakes. They said I should have 60 grams of Protein and the shakes have 30g so technically I only need 2 shakes a day. What other liquids have others tried besides broth, Jello and SF ice pops. Thanks

Herbal tea, though I admit I didn't have a lot of it. I couldn't have made it without Crystal Light!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
