Sorry folks and the TGIF waiter.

I thought I could control it, have been doing so well. When we dine out I know when it's coming up and can simply excuse myself from the table. Well, this past week at TGIFridays... it came without my knowing it. Slime/foam...what ever you want to call it. I reached for a napkin really fast but the table next to me heard and saw.

That's it.... no more dining out for me.

Oh, and my daughter took me to Chuckarama, this buffet out here. 10 bucks for me... and 5 bites is my max on meals... so that's 2 bucks a bite. Never again. But I guess I was upset they wouldn't let me pay a child's price so I did overeat and it came back up while I was at the table...I just leaned over in the booth and threw up in a bowl.

No, I don't have manners anymore when it comes to this. So, it's not right for people around me or the staff at any of those places so I'm just going to stay home!

We traveled this weekend and since the hotel didn't have a free brkfst... IHOP. I just sat there while my children ate. Had Water to sip on. Things worked out so much better plus it's gonna save me a ton of money.

I feel awful for you! I've never had to experience that. I've always been able to make it to the bathroom. I think through the years I've just learned my triggers pretty well. Anyways I have had accidents in the car though and that is sooo nasty..slim all over the front seat. Thank God it doesn't smell. Anyways..if I were u I would carry in your purse a plastic bag (make sure to check for holes!..lol) This way at least you don't have to right in front of yourself. I keep them in the car now and I just had to do that last week. Well sorry again to hear ur having such a hard time..*hugs*

TGIF's did it to me too. Was my worst ever public PB situation.

I had about 1 tsp of the inside of their sicillian quesadillas.. And it stuck majorly. Went to the bathroom and slimed and spit up. Back at the table I asked for coffee (hoping it would loosen me up), but it just built up.. another bathroom break to spit all of that up plus more slime. Back to the table, husband was eating his lunch and I felt nauseated (which is new to me). So I ran back to the bathroom, this time threw up, and it was HUGE spit bubble. Must have formed in my stomach and tickled my nausea nerves!!

Everyone in TGIF's thought I was crazy, constantly running to the bathroom.

I have been leary to go back there now. We use to go there for lunch at least once a week since it's near our work.

I feel so bad for you. It is my worse fear also. I have always been able to make to the bathroom. Even in the bathroom I don't want anyone to hear me though. I am always nervous to go out to eat, but things like weddings, where everyone knows you, that's even worse.

Yeah, there was a group of hot guys at a table near the bathroom that looked up at me everytime I went by, I thought they figured I had diarhea..

And in the bathroom first 2 times, I was lucky no one was in there, 3rd time I didn't care if someone was in there.

But I have had out of all my PB episodes, 2x at home where it came up unexpectedly and I threw up on myself (yuck).

I am worried that will happen one day, I would be so mortified I don't know what I'd do!!

I get embarrassed doing it in a public restroom too!!! I try to wait till it clears out. All the while suffering! I am worried that people will think I have an eating disorder.

Well I decided if someone was in there, and looked at me funny, I would say "Do I LOOK bulimic to you?!"

That's just paranoia though, if I heard someone puking in the bathroom I would think they're sick..

I don't know what it was about TGIF this weekend. I PB over the chicken potstickers or was it a shrimp. I think I just didn't chew it well b/c after that I was able to eat fine. The papaya extract pills didn't help that time.

I dont know whether to feel envious or sympathetic, lol.

That would be horrendously embarrassing, so I do feel sympathy. But on the other hand, on the two or three times I've PB'd since being banded, its taken at least an hour of agony before the offending item makes a reappearance.

And when it does, there's nothing burp like about it. Its exorcist head spinning round stuff.

Oh to be able to think "uh oh" and just get rid of it! With enough time to walk sedately to the bathroom of course.

I've never been a vomiter, so I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

Last month at an Indian restaurant, I had to run to the bathroom 4 times over a 20 minute period to PB. There was a cleaning lady in the bathroom the whole entire time! It took her forever to clean that bathroom and there were only 2 stalls. I thought about saying something to her like don't worry, I don't have bulemia, it's just an upset stomach, but then I figured she probably didn't care one way or the other. It's not like she knows me.

Lauraj, that is so funny! I know I don't look bulimic either. I just don't want people to think "yuck she just thew up now she is eating again, gross!" Maybe I need to get over worrying about what people think!!

I had the same thing at TGIF's. I swear the waiter and my fellow guests (who don't know I have the band) thought i'm bulimic. Everytime I eat food, it would just sit on top of the band and make me so uncomtfortable and everytime i move it comes right out. It also happened to me while was in evening rush hour. Good idea about the plastic bags. I would have never thought about that. Are there any foods that would stay down? i try to follow the food guide but when you go out people it's so hard. since i get sick alot i have a question for people. Do you this acid taste during the day or while your sleep (which would wake me up during a good dream) and would not go away for a an hour.how do you get rid of that? can anyone help me?

it came without my knowing it.
"Lucky" is probably not what you think of when you tell your story, but in a way, you are very, very lucky. Perhaps it's your silver lining.

There's no way I could ever have a PB come without my knowing it, because of the 20+ minutes I'm in significant pain before the PB even thinks about happening. And about 5 mins before it comes, the pain intensifies.

I think it sounds heavenly to just "oops" and have a PB.

Peach, I think you might be experiencing acid reflux. Which I hear is common with the band. Try doing a search, I know I have seen threads about it. You might need a slight unfill. I have heard that a small .10cc unfill can relieve alot of bad symptoms. Hopefully you find relief soon! I had reflux the whole time I was pregnant so I know you are suffering. I haven't had it being banded and hopefully I don't get it. Plus if you are PBing alot you esophogus could be irritated. You may need to have a slight unfill, and for good measure go on liquids for a few days while your stomach settles down. I am just speaking out of my head, but If you are truely having problems getting anything down, it sounds like you are too tight. I know you probably don't want to hear the words unfill, especially if you are a self pay, but it may be the best. Good luck!

After you slime and PB, do you go back to eating? This is what my post op notes say about vomiting.......I assume this is the same thing you all refer to as PBing.....am I correct? Thank God I haven't done it yet but I haven't had a fill yet and am still on mushies. Do you all have these guidelines as well?

Post Band Vomiting Protocol

  1. If you Vomit solid food:
    • Stay NPO (no food or liquid by mouth) for two hours.
    • Do not force the issue and try to eat or drink again immediately as this may induce more vomiting. The more you vomit the more swelling that may occur across your band. This may lead to further obstruction.

[*]After two hours try solid foods again.

[*]If you vomit again:

[*]Prolonged vomiting (more than 12 hours) is not normal.

**NOTIFY US IMMEDIATELY**

[*]If you go to the ER, have them immediately contact Dr. Benavides before treating you for stomach associated problems

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
