In 4 days, I will be 2 weeks post op with my sleeve. The first week was predictably difficult on my all liquid diet and I struggled to get enough Protein and liquids. My surgeon authorized me to move to pureed foods after 7 days and since then, I have been feeling much better. I have been sticking to 3 ounce meals -- about 5 times a day -- and have been eating various pureed items such as butternut squash Soup, sweet mashed potatoes, tuna salad, egg salad, hummus, etc. along with at least one Protein Shake a day. I feel like I have a notable appetite and was somewhat surprised by this since I've read that in the first few months, there is usually little to no appetite and you would have to be reminded to eat. Anyhow, I am wondering if having an appetite and even craving some of the pureed foods I am eating is unusual this early? Thanks for your insights.

You are still healing, so how you are feeling might change as time goes on, head hunger is real also :) Just keep going as your body gets used to smaller portions, I think I am starving then eat, and think I will be able to eat more. But still only eat a small amount and feel sattisfied for a few hours :)

I am struggling with my appetite too. I eat dinner and 20 minutes later I want something else. I am feeling hunger pains which of course makes me want to eat. I keep on seeing how people are unable to barely eat at all but I have not experienced that at any time.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
