Surgery done, fighting on

Recommended Posts

So I got the bypass done on 8/17. I was freaking out before hand. Then, of course, it went just fine. I did have a pretty bad hiatal hernia that was repaired too.

I felt restriction for the first time today when I got cream of wheat and was done after 11 spoons.

Luckily I've had no nausea or vomiting. I'm taking in all of you guys' lessons on pacing and walking and sipping.

Now I'm just waiting to go home and sleep! [emoji4]

Congrats on your surgery and so glad it went well!!!

Now, Holy crap Batman! You're gettin' to eat Cream o'the wheat? Surgeons are so diff. I will be on 2 weeks liquid pre-op + 2 weeks liquid post op. And I would think my PCOS would have a field day if I had 11 bites of Cream of Wheat. (Not judging you, just commenting on how different and unique we all are!! You=luckyyyyyyyy) :51_scream::784_peace:

Yeah, I had the 2 week liver shrinking that included 2 Protein bars/day but that was the only thing I could chew. I was on clear liquid for the first two days post op and today, day 3, I am allowed the full liquid diet. This includes cream of wheat. I'm on this full liquid diet until day 14. I said spoons though because it wasn't thick enough to bite. Psychologically, it helped to imagine I was having actual food. Yeah, I know what you mean though, I was incredibly jealous of people who just eat low carb pre op.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
