Looking for Houston follow up care

Recommended Posts

Hey all, I was sleeved last week in Cabo San Lucas. I'm doing great and incisions are healing well. I'm looking for advice as to surgeons who take patients solely for follow up care. Does anyone have a recommendation? Thanks!

I hate to say this, but it will be almost impossible to find a surgeon for follow-up care. US surgeons will not take on a patient who had surgery in foreign countries (especially Mexico) no matter how good the operating surgeon was. They did not do the surgery so they don't want to step into the risk of something going wrong and being sued. Surgeon's make their money off of the surgery, not the follow-up care. I previously had the lap-band done in Mexico and could not find one single doctor - and I called about 60 - who would see me. I have now had the sleeve done, and I have only seen my surgeon twice after my surgery for my 2 week and then 1 month check up. After that, the follow-up care is done with the dietician. Your best bet would be to speak with your GP and ask for some recommendations.

Go to the ASMBS website. They have a search feature that allows you to search for surgeons who will accept other surgeons patients. It's worth a shot. In my area, both say they will, but I never specifically asked about Mexico.

https://asmbs.org/membership/membership directory in the surgery section, choose (FOLL) willing to follow other surgeons patients.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
