Not Hungry, Regular Food Phase

Recommended Posts

HELP I am in the regular food phase but not the least bit hungry. Nothing seems to sound good. When I eat, an egg, or some tuna, or some salad, all I can have is a few bites. I feel hungry, yet I don't. I do get down a Protein Shake and do try and concentrate on Water and Protein but just wonder if I am ever going to want to sit down and have somewhat of a meal. I am 5 weeks out and just approved for regular food.

Yes you will and then you will wish you were back in the stages where you didn't care about food and couldn't eat as much!

At 5 weeks your stomach is still healing. Real food (protein) makes you feel full faster as it pushes on the sides of your new small stomach. That's why we should eat Protein first - so the restrictive part of surgery works as it is designed. As your stomach heals, you will be able to eat more food at a sitting and eventually approach something that looks like a real meal, only much smaller. Be patient!

After surgery, I found that my taste buds changed. Many foods that I use to enjoy became flavorless. I found that softer foods such as chili and Soups went down much easier than harder foods such as meat. It also added a lot of flavor to my meals and eating became somewhat enjoyable. I have included some recipes at the end of the following article. http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery.pdf

Things will be okay, I'm almost two years out and sometimes, I have to remind myself to eat. The process is all worth it!

I hope you don't mind, but I'm reading the information you posted in the link. This is great and thank you very much, for sharing.

I am 5 weeks tomorrow. I've been on regular foods for the past week. I hate food now!

meat does not taste good to me. I used to eat an omelette every morning, now I hate them. I loved turkey bacon, now i can't stand the taste. Even nuts taste disgusting to me. I am really trying to eat my Protein first but i can only get down about 5 or 6 small bites before I feel nauseous. I am wondering if anyone's taste buds came back to them?

Thank you for all your input. This is definitely a journey and a little different for each of us. I am just testing the waters and eating what I can. This AM. 1/2 egg and 1/4 piece of toast. Some would say.....NO BREAD!.....My surgeon said to eat anything in moderation unless it causes me trouble. Since I don't really desire food, it is important that when I eat, I eat something I can eat and somewhat enjoy. Thus 1/4 of piece of toast to dunk in my egg. I realize for some, bread would be a complete NO NO because it is a trigger food and also not good nutrition. I know I still need some Carbs and it doesn't trigger anything. I don't know about my taste buds. Yesterday, I had a bean tostada...I did not eat the shell and could only eat about 1/4 of the Beans and lettuce topping. Still was in my calorie range, yet a nice change from all the Protein Shakes. It is also something I enjoy. I had the shake for dinner.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
