Hello,

I am scheduled for my sleeve this week. I am excited and nervous. My bmi is 33 and a half, but it was 37 and half about 4 months ago. However, I have high blood pressure and borderline diabetes. Even though I have lost some weight, about 30 pounds, my story is loose weight and gain more back. My highest weight was 216. With health issues starting to play a role, I believe the sleeve is my best option for getting and staying healthy. Has anyone been in this situation?

Thank you.

Not quite but my bmi went down and I hesitated but in the end I realized that I've struggled my whole life with weight. I've lost 30 pounds twice and then gained it back plus some. I ended up with diabetes and. sleep apnea and my joints hurt all the time. I had the surgery 3 weeks ago and have lost 23 pounds since my first dr visit. Sometimes I have moments of regret, when I want to eat something. I can't wait until I'm another 20 down!

Hello,

Thank you for your response. It is appreciated. I lost 40 pounds 4 years ago and gained it all back within 2 to 3 years. If you do not mind me asking, did the surgery help correct the diabetes?

Yup? Diabetes is completely under control. Mind you, I never was on meds. Controlled it with diet and exercise, but now I don't even have to think about it.

Hi Key, I was in a similar situation. A lower BMI (39) with a few co- morbidities. Prior to surgery I've lost and gained, been very active, tried everything and it just never stayed off. I had a VSG almost a year ago and I've never felt better. I wish you all the best! When is your surgery?

Hello Lilmoose,

My surgery is at the end of this week. I am so nervous. I am worried about any negative health issues afterwards. However, most literature indicates that the surgery helps your overall health. I am hoping that the surgery will help resolve my co-morbidities. Thank you for your comments. This discussion board really helps reading about people's experiences.

I am glad to read that you are feeling great!

My BMI was 35, I chose the new Endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty, feeling great, still on liquids, no surgery, less invasive than the sleeve.

Hello,

Do you know if this procedure helps resolve co-morbidities?

I believe this procedure involves using sutures to restrict the stomach. Thank you for your response.

I also have never felt better. Just the change in diet has given me so much more energy! I have been off of caffeine nearly a month and am so much more rested and alert. I know I wouldn't have made this drastic of a diet change without the surgery. It wasn't that I ate too much , but that I ate all the wrong things.

I understand being worried about negative health issues. I weighed the pros and cons and I personally felt FOR ME it was worth the risk. The possibility of things getting better was my choice. Remember to do this for yourself. It IS scary. But that's what we're all here for. Please keep us posted and looking forward to hearing about your experience and progress.

I also agree with Missy, the change in diet is so much better. I've slowly added some caffeine back in but overall, I have WAY more energy and my joints no longer ache.

Congrats on your success Missy!

Thank you both for your support and comments. It means the world to me that people care enough to respond back. My surgery is within hours. I am doing this to get health and stay healthy. I hope it works. I am just afraid of any negative health consequences from the surgery. However, diabetes and high blood pressure are scary. I will keep you posted.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
