Hey, y'all beautiful people! I need a little help. I was sleeved on 6/1/17, so I'm on soft foods now. The last few times I've eaten, though, I've had discomfort. It felt like the food was sitting at the base of my throat. I think it's because I'm eating too fast. So here is my question...

What do you do to slow down when you're eating???

Thanks for the help, y'all!

use a small spoon and make sure you actually set it down on the table between bites.

Hey there! I was also sleeved on 6/1. I as well am on soft foods. I agree using a small spoon and smaller plates have helped. I tend to use disposable appetizer plates and serve myself the amount a toddler would eat. I also pause when I eat, but usually get warned by a "hiccup/burp" that I've had enough. My 9 year old daughter even knows when I've had enough as I make this face like I can't eat anymore. Hope this helps!

I'm using smaller plates and eating from the tip of the fork. I also get a "you're full" hiccup, which I love! But I'm still eating too fast. I'm a teacher, so my body is pretty well trained on two things - eating quickly and restroom times. It's such a hard habit to break, especially knowing that I'm going to be returning to the chaos in August.

I'm a teacher too! I can't believe how hard it is physically to eat slow. My mouth tries to swalliw after like 2 chews! Lol. I really never planned on this being so difficult. I take the teeniest bites I'm a week behind you though, so this really only applies when I eat cottage cheese, because that's the one thing my Dr let me have after 2 weeks that isn't quite a puree.

I try to keep myself busy which sounds crazy. sometimes, I get up and will do something around the house to break up the meal--feed animals, put laundry in, do dishes. also reading while eating helps me slow down. it's hard for me too.

that's hilarious because I get the same thing like a hiccup that tells me that's enough.

Hi! Try slowing down by counting your chewing like 25x. See if that works.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
