Hello folks,

Are any of you got operations coming up in the UK? As much as I value the US guys it would be good to get a sense of how other people are getting on here.

I'm having my bypass on 12th July, so the countdown really does feel like it's begun.

Cheers,

J

I'm in the U.K. Surgery on 11th July
Start my pre op diet tomorrow. Don't have to do 14 days, only 10 as BMI is 32
I'm nervous and hope I can stick to the pre op diet.

The day before me Geets, good luck. I'm finding the diet is fine, it makes you quite mindful about what you eat and I think that's a skill that will come in handy.

I'm in the UK (london). No pre op diet required I don't know why my bmi is 51. Op is in 4 days

I think the pre op diet is sensible as it puts us in mind mentally for the next stage of our journey. From the beginning when we decide to have gastric surgery, through to surgeon, dietician, nurse, consults every stage is part of our journey to prepare us for our new life. But hey after you have the surgery you're going to be in the new mode and will make adjustments as that is the only way to be. We all have different journeys but the outcome is the same. Good Luck for your op

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
