Feeling sick/stuck after eating

Recommended Posts

I've been banded since 2008 but haven't been adjusted for approx. 7 years or so. Lately, after eating anything even drinking I am getting the sensation that I want to throw up and lots of gurgling and just feeling plain miserable. I also experience reflux at night which I had not in years. Has anyone else experience this and have you been seen for it? If, so what was the cause?

Like you I've been banded since 2009 and have not had an adjustment since 2011. All was fine up until about a year ago when I started having the same issues as you. It got to the point where I had the ability to force whatever I had eaten back up. The worst of it was sleeping at night where 5 out of 7 nights I would wake up with a mouth full of awfulness that had me coughing and choking. It was miserable and the only remedy was to have the band drained several weeks ago whereafter there was little issue.

I met with a surgeon, had several tests, and finally decided to have the band removed - which was done this past Monday. Even after only a few days I am a new man. No more reflux, no more stuck issues, no more throwing up.

This was my only solution and I no longer worry about what was happening inside me and the ongoing fear that I was causing irreversible damage to myself.

Same symptoms and today I got a CT scan and I now develop a HH. Not sure what is next but I will let you know.
Good luck with your new adventure

I, too, am having the same problem. I go for an upper GI endoscopic procedure tomorrow morning. I just finished paying off the band procedure and am not liking the idea that it may have to be removed!!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
