How many calories per day is your pre-op diet?

Recommended Posts

Hi, my sleeve is on June 9th. Just wondering about everyone else's pre op diet. All liquid (or mostly liquid)? Are you allowed to have real food? How many calories per day?

thanks and good luck everyone

My preop diet was 800-900 calories. With my old stomach it was hard. Now I'm lucky to hit 600 calories.

I was never given a calorie count.

They provided a list of approved shakes. Meals were to be replaced with those shakes. Using those shakes the calories depending on the shake selected would be 480 to 750

I drank 3 Premier Protein shakes a day. Each one is 160cals, so 480cals/day. The first few days were rough, but since they were low carb it got much easier.

Im at 1500 but only because I probably burn 500+ calories 5x a week during my workout. No liquid diet orders yet but my pre-op is end of June. I might not go pre-liquid because I haven't been obese for that long and have no co-morbidities so my liver is probably good.

That's a complicated question. Im 5'6" and currently 240 but I probably look under 200 lbs. Doctors are usually shocked at my weight. Goal weight is probably between 160-180 but I won't know until I see how the weight looks. I'm thinking more about goal appearance than goal weight. At 140 I'm a size 0/2 due to muscle mass and build.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
