I am only just beginning my lapband journey but I am ready now and wanting to get headed in the right direction. I have my first consultation on Oct. 16. It seems like I am gaining even more weight lately. Could you give me some suggestions on a diet I could start on now so that I can start to lose a few pounds? Should I just try to start eating as if I already have the band? Am I trying to jump the gun too much here? I am just feeling LOUSY about myself and my weight right now and I really need something structured in order to lose any weight.

Journal what you are eating so you can see where your calories are coming from. Begin exercising if you are not currently. Try to increase your activity level. Cut down on sugary drinks. Increase your Water intake. Don't eat for 3 hours before you go to bed. Cut out white stuff (sugar, flour). Make incremental changes in your diet but don't diet. Diet's are for a period of time. This has to be lifestyle changes. Raed some of te posts on basics for beginners. There are some grea sites for journalling. I use www.fitday.com It calculates calories, Proteins, fats, sugars and more when you type in what you've eaten. It also has a place for writing thoughts and feelings. This is important because for many of us, food is not our only issue. The food represents other things (comfort, stress buster, company, addiction, etc) and even when you are banded, you will need a way to have those needs met.

Good luck to you!

Val

Hi I am Bob banded since Aug 7 2007. Somethings you may try is to stop drinking pop. I used to drink 4 litres a day. Try Chrystal Light in many different flavours with lots of ice. Try to think of the long run , the big picture if you will, what you do now has a far reaching effect. I am an emotional eater, if you are check what sets you off and be wary or at least aware of what those triggers are. Maybe losing things like white bread, rice and Pasta. Not using butter or salt. Keep a journal of everything you eat and when and ...why.

Good luck to you,

, Bob

The Core diet sounds like a good way to go after the band. You eat until you feel 'full' and you have a pretty extended list of choices.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
