I'm 6 weeks out and I've been having some unexpected side effects and looking for others with the same. When I get up too fast, I feel really dizzy and my heart rate goes up. Before surgery, this never happened. Has this happened to you? My resting heart rate has also went down, but I feel like my heart rate in general spikes really quickly nowadays. If I eat an extra bite of something, my heart will speed up and stay that way for about an hour. Is this normal?

I also have that issue when I get up. It was worse the first few weeks after surgery but stil happed occasionally. I believe mine may be due to low blood pressure. I've used a monitor I have at home immediately following these incidents and it does read low. I had ridiculously high blood pressure prior to surgery so I don't know if my body is readjusting or what.
Give your medical team a call and get checked out.

If you take BP medicine it's probably time to stop taking it. Go see your PCP for a possible medicine change. I was taken off BP meds after two weeks of having bypass. Sounds like issues with that.

Dumped BP on standing, paired with an increased heart rate is orthostatic hypotension. If you take BP meds might be time to review dosing or if you need them. Also can happen in dehydration. Sometimes happens to me when I first get up in the morning. Make position changes slowly.

Good luck!

You could also be anemic, so I'd have them check that as well! It's possible you need iron~

I have the same thing when I stand for a few minutes. I had blood work done and my potassium is low. Going in to see the doctor tomorrow to see what we can do about it. I've had all the BP checks, and it's not orthostatic hypotension. Hoping potassium supplementation will help.

Hi!
I was sleeved on 4-3-17. I was having the same issues. My potassium decreased and I would get light-headed when standing. And the heartburn was unbearable!!! I went to the doctor and was given potassium to take for 5 days and was told to increase my Water intake. More than likely you are sounding dehydrated. I was dehydrated. Once I increased my water in take (I was only taking in less than 20 ml of water per day due to the heartburn in which we should be taking in between 48 to 64 oz of water daily), I began to feel better. I am having more energy. I am eating more. My skin is looking tremendously better. I look alive again! Your body will get adjusted to the transition its going through. You have to follow the directions of your surgeon (or PCP) and keep pushing forward each day. You will make it. I know it seems difficult right now (as I am feeling the struggle too right along with you) but trust me, it will get better!!![emoji4]

I just got back from the doctor's office. She said my symptoms are most likely caused by my low potassium and prescribed supplementation for one month. I'm really hoping this will help.

No issues with dehydration thankfully. I am lucky in that I don't have a problem with drinking liquids. I generally get beteeen 65-80 ounces a day.

Sleeved3-39-17 I hope you can get some answers soon. It is very disconcerting to have those kinds of symptoms.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
