What's your Pre-Op To Dos?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have a long list of to dos before surgery? I do. I'm interested in hearing about everyone's. So far I have a small list. I want to get an idea of everyone else's to see if I'm forgetting stuff. I mean I want to hear everything. For me I have:

Deep clean bathroom

Vacuum

Clean out kitchen non bariatric foods

Do all dishes

Get car professionally cleaned for trip

Get oil changed

Clean litter boxes

Clean pet bowls

Sweep/mop

Walk through with pet sitter

Put fresh sheets on bed

Take out trash

This is a small list and I feel there is more. Let's help everyone out so that we're all prepared when it comes time!!

I'm going to prepare some freezer meals for my family so that my husband doesn't have to cook every night. I have 3 children so they'll all need to eat while I drink and recover.

That's a good one!!

Put together a small bag, make sure you have something from home with you. Sounds like you're getting it done away from home.

Thank you! I would have forgotten, I never take pics of myself. :)

I need to request vacation time at work.

Make a living will ( I don't have one and I know it's a negative state of mind but, it would make me feel better)

Grocery shop for husband and kids.

Subscribe to HBO Now and Starz so I have more to watch when I'm post op and bored.

I understand. I shared my LastPass password with hubs before surgery.

Subscriptions are probably a good idea. I subscribed to Netflix a couple years ago when I had bronchitis and never looked back. :-)

Don't forget to shop for post-op foods and have them ready and waiting so it's one less thing to worry about. My local grocery store does deliver, so I have that IF I forget something but I don't want to have to use that service if I don't have to. I'm curious though how I will feel. My friend who was sleeved went shopping - like shopping shopping - the day after she came home. She felt great - I hope I have the same luck!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
