Was your 2nd month slow weight loss?

Recommended Posts

I'm interested in seeing how people did 2 months out in terms of weightloss. Before anyone says so, I'm not comparing myself I'm just a curious person, and this is all new to me and I like seeing all the varying differences.

It is quite common and physiologically normal - it would be abnormal for one to lose more in the second or later months than in the first month.

What is happening is that when we go on to a serious caloric deficit, we that deficit is made up mostly from our short term energy reserves of glycogen (basically stored carbohydrates), which burns quite rapidly (around 2000 calories per pound lost.) Once the glycogen is depleted, the body needs to replenish that supply to a functional level and we frequently stall or pause for a short time - the "three week stall" that we often read about here. Once the glycogen stores are back up some and our body gets the idea that this caloric deficit thing that you are doing to it is a serious thing, it starts drawing from our longer term energy stores of fat - which is what we are really here for. However (there's always a "however"!) fat burns more slowly than glycogen (around 3500 calories per pound lost) so the weight comes off more slowly now, but we are doing what we came here to do - burn fat. Note that this has nothing at all to do with "ketogenic" diets or miracle "fat burning" potions - it's strictly the result of being in a prolonged caloric deficit.

As a side note, I lost 32 lb the first month and 15 each of the next two months. with roughly the same caloric intake, so right on profile.

I'm two months post sleeve surgery.

HW 236, SW 226 (Sleeved 1/12/17), CW 199, GW 136

1 week Pre-op: 10 lbs
month 1: 16 lbs
month 2: 11 lbs

I'm nervous the weight loss will continue to slow down considerably, but I understand too much too fast may not be good either. I think because I've lost this amount of weight before without surgery, I fear the same cycle of the past - the weight loss stops, and then the weight comes back quickly. Lots going on in my head!!

I weighed 298 on the day of surgery. At the end of the first month, I weighed 276 (a 22 pound loss), and at the end of the second month, I weighed 261 pounds (a 15 pound loss). Keep in mind that on surgery day, I was near 300 pounds, and that I had already lost 100 pounds during my six-month pre-op diet program leading up to surgery day.

I get your curiosity, but these kinds of questions are so loaded. I've seen people jump to ridiculous conclusions on these boards over the past many months because of something they read when they don't take the context into consideration.

Good luck!

2nd month was less than the first, that is pretty normal.

I really needed to see this. I am having a blah day today and although I don't want to imagine that anyone else can relate I am actually glad that I am not alone. Wow, I seriously seem to be in this three-week stall.

However, I have been trying to stay upbeat because approximately two weeks after my surgery (VSG) I passed a kidney stone (never had one before) and then the other one had to be surgically removed. Sigh. So I've been at 262.4 for right at three weeks now.

I went to the gym for the first time today. I'm still a bit achy, but I'm trying to push through everything without getting depressed.

It's just interesting to see people's weightloss. I have a bad habit of watching the scale, and others see the weightloss but I just can't. Definitely a roller coaster.

3lbs/ week is NOT slow, it is fast. I'd kill for that right now. Weight loss happens in drips and drabs...not in a straight line.

When you add it up that's definitely a lot, gives me major hope! What was your surgery weight?
Also sooo interesting I've been seeing people have colds their 2nd month which is something that's happening to me right now and I'm almost 2 months. I wonder if it has anything to do with surgery.

Well, I had been loosing more prior to surgery. Granted my body needed to loose more then. I lost 75lbs so far, only 15 of that is post off though. I guess if I continue to loose that over 8-9 months I may hit my goal. Its frustrating seeing ppl who lost 30-45 pounds in a month, or 100 in 3 mo. I just feel as if I am failing, I guess I need to stop comparing my lost to others. Which is the hardest to do right now.

My surgery weight was 371. I want to point out that I wasn't and still am not a hard-core dieter. I do not do low carb, no carb, and now that I can eat real food, I no longer drink Protein Shakes or eat Protein Bars. I follow my NUT's program of eating 5 meals a day every 3 -4 hours - with 3oz of Protein eaten first. I work out with a personal trainer 2x a week and ride my recumbent bike 20 minutes another 2 - 3x a week. I've found that I don't lose weight if I don't get my fluids and Proteins in and also tend to lose more after the days I get my max protein of 90g.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
